I was severely intoxicated and got taken advantage of against my will. It happens to so many women, yet I was naive enough to think it'd never happen to me.

It was unprotected as well and my first time ever, so I even got my virginity taken by this asshole. I always saw sex as a positive thing before this and now I can't even look at my body without recoiling. I feel disgusting, ashamed, guilty, like it's my fault or I'm overreacting. I can't think of anything else, it's all I see when I close my eyes.

I'm worried this is just going to worsen my suicidality and that I'll never feel normal or comfortable ever again.

I so wish we could carry part of the burden for you.

I saw a family member struggle with this for years. But she did get through it stronger and found true love.

I don't know that you cannot feel your feelings or even shouldn't feel them. But be aware they are not who you truly are. You are wonderful.

I am so sorry that happened. I can relate to a certain degree. I always thought bad people would come with a sign around their neck, or some kind of indication.

Time heals. That doesn't mean forgiving or forgetting, but you will return to a baseline eventually. You will feel normal again, comfortable again, and happy again, but it will take time. It is absolutely not your fault, nor are you overreacting. As for practical advice, if I may, I'd go to the police. If not the police, at least someone you can confide in and help you process and grieve. Sexual Assault isn't a mistake that good people accidentally do, it is a serious crime that deserves punishment. If you do wish to report it, the police or a sexual assault service built to help people like you can help you understand your options. In any case, you can seek medical attention whether you decide to report or not. STI testing and prevention, emergency contraception, and forensic evidence can be things to consider.

I hope you feel better soon, and that you have people that you can rely on to help you. Don't bear this burden alone, there are people out there who will help you if you let them. Take care of yourself

please, please document this, go to the police, go to https://rainn.org/ and chat with counselors, report it, tell people now, don't wait.

it is going to impact you and you want records of it, no matter what people say or how it impacts things, report it. you could start with just chatting with the counselors at rainn.org. they have training.

I'm so sorry for what happened to you. Try reporting it to your local authorities and getting help somewhere.

And trust me, your virginity has not been taken away through rape or sexual assault. Virginity is only lost between two consenting partners and no more.

I hope you heal and find peace within yourself after this tragedy ❤️

part of the reason i am saying "please report it asap" is because i didn't report things that happened to me asap and it really fucked me over.

when i didn't report, my reasons were logical:

1) i don't like police and never have (no offense @COP2CON who is nice)

2) i wasn't sober

3) i didn't think the damage was that bad at first (but it got worse over time, physically and psychologically)

4) i didn''t like the prison industrial complex and actually thought intoxication was a factor and things might not have happened without that intoxication and was actually concerned about prosecution and being a part of that

5) i didn't leave the scene immediately after it occurred and report it

6) i didn't want my life and time to be spent on this; this is not the side quest i wanted

7) i had already been depressed and suicidal at times (like you) and when it happened, i just figured it wasn't going to matter, i was done, and I didn't really express this with words in my head, it's just what happened.

these beliefs were ALL wrong:

1) police suck (no offense @COP2CON) but are sometimes a necessary part of society

2) lots of rape victims are not "perfect" from a prosecution standpoint, many are intoxicated when it happens

3) this is likely to impact you psychologically more over time. however damaged you are now, you may be more damaged in 4 years. maybe you would have stopped being suicidal in 2 years and gotten a job, gotten a promotion, and now you have to do more therapy, do fine at first, struggle in 2 years and don't get a promotion, and it affects your career trajectory; having this documented means you sometimes can get certain expenses paid for (like if there is a prosecution, they may pay for certain expenses depending on your jurisdiction; it may be easier to take a leave of absence from work later if you are having flashbacks and it gets worse and you can't function).

4) even if you report this, even if you're the "perfect" person for reporting (religious, never drinking, no tattoos and piercings), rape cases often are hard to prosecute and this person is more likely to either get no time or a plea deal and serve only some time. you're not sending that person to prison forever, most likely; if anything, there's maybe going to be an arrest, at least others will be warned, it will make it so if the person does it again it's easier to prosecute, etc. so report it for you, not for what will happen regarding them.

5) many rape victims don't report the rape immediately; it does mean a weaker case for the DA, it may not get prosecuted, you should still report it.

6) your life and time will be spent on this unfortunately even if you ignore it, or that's my experience anyway. ignoring it won't make it less of a side quest, it will still impact you

7) survival instinct is hard to overcome, you may not be able to attempt if you want to later, and if you do attempt, you may not complete it and survive, as most suicide attempts don't result in death. statistically, even with already being a SaSu member, there's more of a chance you'll be alive than dead in a certain number of years (given statistics on suicidal people) and you'll be much better off documenting things.

in many ways, it's too late for me, i didn't report what happened to me for a long time and really regret it, but you should report this now. even if it's hard, please report it. you want documentation of what happened. you don't want to just ignore it and move on because over time you'll learn it's going to impact you in different ways and it's easier to deal with when it's documented.

i really hope you go down to the police station, even if you washed away evidence already. and if you haven't washed clothing, don't. it's not about the conviction that you may never get or may get, you just need to report it so it's documented.

Thank you for the advice and I'm really sorry this happened to you as well ❤️ the world is messed up. I have not washed clothing but I have showered, and police scares me, but it's probably better giving it a try now that it's only like 2 days ago.

I wish you the best!

Sorry to hear about your experience. You should report it if you feel up to it.

I (straight male) went to a bar alone one time when i was 25 or so, as my ex didn't feel like going out around 9pm. But midway through my first beer, some guy at the bar started talking to me, he seemed ok, after a while asked if his friend on other side of bar could join us? I thought why not. Chatty pair. The friend bought be a beer, but it tasted a little strange/bubbly, but bars that time were crap anyway. So before i knew it, felt well out of it and the 2 were walking me through the door arm in arm. Barman asked if i was ok, and they replied i was just drunk from a wedding earlier that day. Next thing i knew it was around 5am, and one of them busy behind me, i pushed him off and grabbed my trousers and ran. I looked back at the door, and cant recall if it was a small hotel or apartment as i was still so out of it. Ran 2 miles home and jumped in the shower. My ex thought i was two-timing with some girl. I couldn't tell her or anyone what happened. Wish i did report it at the time. But this kind of thing happening to men was unheard of back then (2000).

That's scary af
Something similar happened with my office junior. He was a fresher so didn't have much salary, so he was sharing his room with a room partner he didn't know. On one of the night, that guy jumped on him while he was asleep. He got traumatised at what happened. He ran away immediately out of the room and knocked the door of landlord.

It's happened to me 41 times. It's horrible every time. It will take years to recover BUT play Tetris. I'm serious. There are studies that found playing Tetris during the first few days after a traumatic event can make the brain much less affected by the trauma long term. Please play Tetris. And then start looking for a rape crisis center. DO NOT tell them you're suicidal or self-harming if you want to stay out of a hospital.

Please go to the police ASAP and just report it. If you live with family and need a ride, you can tell them if you want. This isn't something you need to feel ashamed of having happened to you. It's just going to cause issues. You can call them and tell them you have a rape to report and ask them what to do. Most counties have a police non-emergency line to report crimes, but it's a serious crime. You could also walk or drive down to your local police station.

You should put all the clothing from that night into a sealed bag and take it with you. Make sure no one living with you washes it or throws it out.

Let the police handle everything. They should ask if you want a rape counselor and say yes. It's up to you whether to tell them if you are suicidal but if you say you are, it could result in involuntary care. You can get a rape crisis counselor without saying you're suicidal.

the whole tetris thing that the other person wrote that seemed crazy has some evidence to it (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/...-do/202502/how-tetris-might-help-prevent-ptsd) but please don't click on that article and start reading. You should report this ASAP, today. Find a way to get there.
