I talk to him often about my problems and my depression and he told me that sometimes he'll purposefully ignore my messages because he has to protect himself from being sad. I don't know What to do. I think about killing myself every hour of everyday and my sn is coming soon. I wish I had someone to understand

Talk to people on this site and in the public chat forums. Let your bf be if hearing you vent depresses him too much. I hate listening to venting too. But there are people on here who will listen.

Message me whenever, I won't offer solutions, invalidate, or ignore you. I won't have much to say, but I promise I'll listen to every word you say. Hope things get better.

I'm sorry if I'm being harsh, since vents about depression can really bring you down, and I know that I'm probably being biased. But considering the situation you're in, I find it pretty inconsiderate that he would ignore you. I think that if you love someone the least you can do is listen to them.

No, you can't think like that. It's one thing to ask for help, but venting is literally just talking about negative things without any kind of constructive element involved. This can be really distressing and offputting for some people. It can upset them and make them depressed and it's selfish to think that they should go through that just so you have someone to vent to. That's different from asking for actual help though. People should try to support each other because it's constructive and asking for help is not distressing in any way but venting is anything but constructive and it can be highly distressing. No one should feel forced to hear thoughts or conversation that might cause them unneccessary distress.

Agreed. Repeatedly having someone vent to you about your depression and suicidal thoughts can be incredibly draining and can even end up negatively impacting your own mental health over time. There isn't anything inherently inconsiderate about opening about that. It's incredibly uncomfortable to have to sit there and listen to someone talk about their issues. I love my dad, but he does sometimes vent to me about his issues and I kind of hate it.
