What happens to my stuff after I ctb?

I don't have a will and I'm not making one. I still live with family so all my stuff is in their house. Will they get to keep it? I also have a car that I own not the bank so will they be able to keep that too? Also I have money in the bank. Should I withdraw it and hide away somewhere for them? We're poor and I'm not sure if the state still cremates people for free if you come from a low income family. There's about 2 thousand saved so that should be enough to cover cremation if not.

It depends on which country you live in.
If the family you live with are your closest relatives, they will also be your legal heirs.

Everything would go to them once the paperwork is done. However that can take a while and they might need money for your cremation and to pay fees for whatever needs to be filed before they actually get access to your bank accounts and can change the name on the ownership documents for the car.

It can help to take money out, but if you hide it and they don't FIND it. That's a problem.

I would probably put your ownership documents for the car and some money and other valuables in a simple lockbox and leave the key (and location of the box) with your good bye note.

If there are valuables/funds/a car part of the inheritance it is less likely that the county/city will pay for your cremation. However there are sometimes death benefits available to some people in some specific situations and deductibles etc. It really depends again on where you live.

I totally agree with @wljourney , as far as it completely depends where one not only lives BUT has permeant residence. I live in the upper Midwest of the U.S. and each and every state has their own laws pertaining to a departed's items. Like where I live, no family means nothing as the state will try and locate ANY living relative and give them the 1st shot at what ever is left over after disposal of the body and any debts.

Now for me when I am dust, then my scholarship for students gets everything leftover. My brother and sister get squat.

So one should investigate said such with one's local government and national government also.

I'm located in the US. And they are my closest relatives. None of them depend on me financially so I think they'd be eligible for cremation assistance .I'm gonna close my bank account before I do it and hide the money and documents in my mom's room with my note where I know she'll find it after a day or so. Thank you. I don't have much so there's no need for a will. It'll all just be stuff they can sell to make life easier for awhile.

I just wrote up a will recently (well it is still in process). I actually told them to just ditch all my tangible assets and give whatever I have in the bank to charities and my cremation costs. I don't have a family to leave anything to anyway so it works for me. In your case, your family will inherit it all anyway. I'll just have to live off my income and let the rest sit there for when the time comes. It is peace of mind to have a will (for some). I have put it off for a few years. Now that my days are numbered, I just decided to crack on with it.
