I'm in my 20s right now, and seeing people graduating from college, getting married, traveling, partying, having kids, getting promotions, etc. has been making me feel really down on myself. This might get worse for me the older I become. I just want to delete my social media accounts and be alone. Sometimes I want to live on an isolated island. I truly don't want to live anymore, I really want to die.

Take everything you see on social media with a grain of salt, nobodies life is that perfect.

i do agree with your take that getting older makes you more depressed though, but for slightly different reasons. Life as an adult is just fucking boring and repetitive, all you do is the same shit over and over again because you're a slave to money. Im not saying childhood/teen years are great by any stretch of the imagination but at least you could get out of certain situations most of the time, with adult life if you want any form of a "comfortable life" you're forced to suffer and do things you hate.

I'm in my 20s too and I can't imagine my life in my 30s. Hope to be dead before that.

Comparison is the thief of joy. It's natural for us to want to compare ourselves. Distance yourself completely from social media, do a detox for a couple months. Social media is fake, it's highlight reels. Don't believe everything you see.

Social media does not reflect reality, but it can make people feel inferior. We as humans cannot help comparing ourselves to others.
I am getting more depressed as I get older, as I have existed for a longer period of time, therefore I am more tired of it. Old age is my worst nightmare. I know that my health problems are just going to get worse as I get older. The worst part is the human life expectancy is far too long, I could possibly have many decades left of it.

Like others have stated, what's portrayed in social media doesn't necessarily mean that's their real life.

And yeah, I agree with you about the correlation between depression and age. I've been depressed since I was little, and I can definitely notice that my depressive episodes become worse as I age. That's due to "normal" people having the time of their lives -- graduating college, beginning a fledgeling career, etc. It saddens me because the feeling of being left behind increases.

The older I get, the less I care.
The outside you see on social media is what people want you to see.
No one will post their failures, the fights with their spouse etc.

There does not seem there is a bottom of how tormented we can feel. In other words i dont think there is ever a rock bottom to feeling despair. I do believe unless saved by something or someone, we will tend to naturally feel worse as we age. I am in my mid 30s and the depression is much worse than in my 20s or before that. What changed is that I am better at regulating my mood so I can function to some extent

Agreed with everyone on the social media thing. It is not real at all. I see it happen in real-time with my family. Kids posting shit that makes them look rich, while at exactly the same time spouse getting depressed at all the shit being posted by others (even though I say "that's not reality". If you have Netflix watch the social dilemma it's a great documentary and explains why social media is evil and killing people (mainly teen girls). I would say social media has ruined my life and its one of the reasons I'm actually going to ctb.
