"Warning": You wont see anything gore , just a man attempting suicide by self-immolation. The video is filmed from far away so is safe to watch in my opinion.
After your first glance you can close the video if you don't like watching the thing. He doesn't light the match immediately.

I've watched some suicide videos today, all kinds and i want to point out that survival instinct sucks. The body does not want to die, we clearly are not in control. All that struggle that i saw, in hangings, jumpings, shootings, etc. Having an off button would have been great considering we didn't ask for this life, as far as we remember...

So this method sucks unless you have huge balls.

Self immolation sounds like one of the most awful methods. I do not even want to think about it. Yes, the survival instinct is hard to overcome as we are programmed to survive. I wish it was easier to leave this world. We deserve a right to die, a peaceful dignified death. We shouldn't have to resort to these horrific methods.

Self-immolation seems incredibly horrific. That Vietnamese monk doing it without ever moving a muscle is no kidding the most impressive thing a human being has ever done.

I believe it became such a problem from many of them using it as a protest method that fire extinguishers were placed in popular areas. Certainly one method I could never see myself using, I can't even fathom how good you must be at meditating to achieve that level of un-awareness of the outside world. Crazy stuff. Poor dude too, I can't begin to imagine the pain or SI involved.

I was just thinking about it last week.
I had a ratchet around my neck (night-night method) and this time it actually hit the spot and I felt good while slowly passing out (best description I have). While I felt this I actually got it a bit tighter as the last push and in my mind I was thinking about it and I actually smiled. "This is it. I'm good with the decision and I'm finally gonna be relaxed."
but then, for some reason my hands started to go for the ratchet to release it. in my mind I'm like "wtf? There is no reason for me to stop this. It doesn't hurt and its going well". still, my hands released the pressure and that was it.

It was so "not me" that I truly can't explain it. I was completely aware and in my mind I wanted to keep the pressure but for some reason I stoped it.
Someone knows about research about this stuff?

That is about the last on my list of ways to CTB, or so attempt.

Way too hard core for me.

Drowning and burning to death have been discussed many times as they are the most painfull and horrific ways to go. It can take at least 5 minutes until go unconscious and those 5 minutes are the worst torture possible.

Just this week: in my rural neighborhood a 30s man burnt himself to death. He got a kid to lock him into a full stacked hay store and lit up. It's just a plain brick house with no wall paint, ceiling, etc with iron roof - so noone noticed until the fire caught up and the poor man started wailing.

A charred body was found. Police ruled it suicide after interrogating family and the kid. Apparently he had longterm issues with the dad with whom they lived at the farmhouse. He had drug problems too - to explain the choice of method.

If he was lucky he would have been unconscious from smoke inhalation before the worst of the burns.

Witnesses say he went silent after a while, long before they managed to contain the blaze.
