• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

As a last desperate attempt to go through the motions of "getting help before it's too late" I called a suicide hotline. It took a lot for me to pluck up the courage and honestly, I don't know what I was expecting or hoping for - some kindness? Understanding? Comfort? Who fucking knows. What I got has quite literally been the straw to break the camels back and all I can say is that I can't understand why such a useless service is recommended.

I was greeted by a man who was very obviously mentally checked out - a great deal of "hmm" and "ahh?". He asked why I was calling and I explained my situation, every response was a variation of "and how does that make you feel?". The longer I spoke the more awkward and uncomfortable I became, the more evident it was that I was clearly an inconvenience to him. To put it as plainly as I can, this guy was very obviously unbothered and was just mindlessly asking me open ended questions, anything to get him to his lunch break I suppose.

After an agonising pause, I said "I'm going to go now. Bye.", and he replied "ok, bye." That was that.

What the fuck.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard a positive review of a suicide helpline, this is much better addressed amongst peers honestly. I'm really sorry you had such a crap experience.

I have been tempted to call but never did so far. Crisis hotline.

Unfortunately this is just how most if not all of these hotlines operate. The goal is simply to keep you talking while assessing whether you're an active risk. If so then they will send the police to check on you.

I'm so sorry, they really are so awful. I don't really even know why they're still operating when I feel like they just make things worse for most.
