Why is purity all that critical? Even if it was just 90%, a 25g scoop will actually have 22.5g of it and probably still lethal?

That's what everyone says. I don't know the technicalities behind it

Drinking too much increases your chances of vomiting. Follow Stan's guide and you should be good
