i ordered a braided cotton rope ~ 8 mm thick that should be coming on Friday. I'm wondering if this will be okay enough for a partial hanging attempt? I'm also about 5'6 and 65 kg, there's a metal bar in my dorm closet I'm thinking of using as an anchoring point

Can I ask how much it cost and how you're doing the partial hanging? You sound similar to me, even down to being in a dorm so this sounds like a method I could try

yeah!! it cost me about $15 off of amazon. for the noose I'm planning on tying a slip knot and for the anchor point I'm tying a snuggle hitch. i also read to keep the noose close to the base of the neck but would definitely do more research into it to be safe :) I'll have to experiment more with positioning once the stuff arrives

The rope should be good however, what worries me is the cotton material, from what i know it isnt as strong as Polypropylene or other materials. It should be fine, I would recommend you test the rope and all other factors ( metal bar, positions, etc) beforehand to make sure it will hold. Also Try to practice hitting the sweet spot with the rope. Setup is key with hangings.

I reviewed that type of rope. It appears to be more ornamental and craft rope.
You bought it, see how strong it is.
