I just read an article why vets have such a high suicide rate. They have access to lethal substances. They are treated like shit. They have a lot of time pressure and have to experience a lot of horrible stuff. The job attracts people with a certain personality (empathy, perfectionism).
They have to witness when owners treat their pets in a bad way. Don't want or cannot pay for important operations. Or when owners force their weak and old pets to operations that only extend their suffering in a meaningless way.
It is probably worse when people abuse or neglect their pets. But it reminded me of the story of the humpback whale Timmy in my country. Where people in my friend group were offended when I pointed out it is is probably better to let the whale die instead of this extremely absurd saving project (which eventually totally backfired). Personally, I (and many observers from animal rights Organisations) considered this saving project animal abuse.
If you want to read it here is the story. https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/germans-and-their-love-for-the-humpback-whale-timmy.245981/
Edit: I think this also has to do with my relation to life and death. My grandma died recently and my mom/sister cannot stop crying. I am not sure why I am so numb. But I think if you lived that long, you lived your life, she suffered a lot I think it was the right time to go. Actually, I think if she died one year earlier this could have prevented a lot of extreme pain. I have a guilty conscience for being so numb. But I am pretty emotionally distant to my family after all the abuse I have been through and in which nightmarish pain I am all the time....
