Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

the great British hatred of talking about feelings makes this culture where dialogue is basically:

"you alright mate"
"yeah"
"yeah me too"

i feel so horrifically isolated despite a big enough social circle and outwardly seeming capable of taking this all face on but it feels like whenever I try to talk about what's going on in my life it gets caught in my throat and I talk about something else

when I can get the words out, I hear back the usual stuff about family and how much you'll break their hearts or whatever but I am going positively mental and just want to feel like someone gives a quarter of a shit about the fact I'm unhappy or like somebody else has stakes in my continued existence

being English poisons you! or maybe ADs and APs do.. I am on fifth medication now for mood and I wish it would make me feel any different. I don't know if I have the energy to get my hopes up again, go through all the shit with my GP and just end up spending a tenner a month on pills that do nothing other than further fuck my sex drive and force me into isolation

I won't quit and realistically KMS creates far more problems than it solves . my life is okay and my prospects are okay but none of it makes me happy for very long if at all

wordvomitsalad erm what ze flip. hope you're all managing okay

I lived in the UK(Wales) for 4 years, and while I can say that you guys are definitely less sociable than us, it's not much different here in America, and probably not much different in most of the western world. I think if we were more open as a society, then we probably wouldn't have forums like SaSu, since people would feel free to express what they are going through.

I can sorta speak to the medication though. On average it takes about two weeks for meds to take effect, which is why the process is so grueling. That said, if they aren't working, and you think they are adverse, communicate that to your psychiatrist. If you are currently talking to a general physician, ask to be given a psychiatrists information. No offense to GP's but it's a little above their scope, especially if you aren't responding well to the current treatment.

It might also be worthwhile to take a 2 week break from meds, while monitoring your mood in a mood journal. Then get a blood test. This will help you rule out any deficiencies that aren't neurotransmitter deficiencies.

Also, it's worth noting that you could also simply be treatment resistant. Exploring treatment resistant options like glutamate therapy(ketamine therapy) might be worthwhile as well.

It sounds isolating, friend. On a slightly related note, not a lot of people realize their privacy settings for this forum are set so that no one can see their profile and have trouble messaging you. Make sure you take the time to check that out if you want it fixed. That way, at least it's easier to make connections while you're on SaSu.

Or the capacity to understand.

I have found that the average person, even empathic ones, struggles with extrapolation. Meaning that, while they "have their own problems," they also fail to see your situation as valid compared to their own. I am truly sorry that it is such a way. My most general advice to you all is to arm yourselves with a wide variety of analogies and metaphors with can help explain your situation to the Doubting Thomases of the world. It's that whole "self-advocate" thing, really. I know "just work on your communication skills, bro" sounds hollow coming from an Internet stranger, but I sincerely hope that it helps you at some point in your life.
The non-empathic ones are another story entirely, and another great tool is learning how to handle people such as narcissists, sociopaths, and the like. Dr. Ramani Durvasula is a good place to start.
Stay strong, everyone. 🫂

I know exactly what you mean. I'm from England. It's seen as a form of politeness. No matter how you are feeling you just have to say you're okay or else you'll inconvenience someone else. That's how we are taught to think.
