SN seems quite popular, inert gas doesn't seem to get as much love. Is it just because there's a bit more effort to set it up?

It's definitely quick and painless, you can see proof of this on youtube when people inhale helium to get the squeaky voice and suddenly pass out.

What are your thoughts, which do you you prefer?

I think the gas method might be less popular as the tank is bulky and hard to hide, some people have seen failed stories because they used the wrong type of gas (Balloon grade do not use), some get confused about the fittings, all the needed parts might intimidate some, it often requires you being able to go pick it up versus shipped to you (Though some places will ship and some require you have a business to ship to you), and some people panic at the idea of a bag on their head, to name a few. It will be my method of choice but you have to find out which is right for you.

Of the two, SN is much cheaper, more portable with only minor requirement for setup. The major advantage with inert gas is that it is absolutely peaceful and painless. Both are valid and proficient CTB methods. Best, G

I can see the appeal of a method that is easy to store and (fairly) easy to use. That's a good point, I guess a lot of people don't have the ability to keep a large cylinder of gas around on the down low. The bag on the head might turn people off. But for how painless and peaceful it is I think it should be considered more, hence why Sarco has a lot of interest.

Another advantage of inert gas is that it's very quick, once all the parts and setup are sorted, it's just a matter of putting the bag on and opening the valve. One big inhalation and consciousness is lost immediately. SN on the other hand may require a lengthy regimen of fasting and meds in the lead up to the the final salt, with possibly more discomfort.

Personal preferences I guess!

If inert gas method wasn't so fiddly I would consider it as a main method. I'm also afraid it's too fragile. Bag, tube whatever coming off while you're convulsing. It's a dream CTB method but no way in hell I'd trust it by itself. Would use the sarco pod though for sure.
