So I'm back on this site. The weather, the humans around me (I'm from Israel), trumps reelection… the world is fucking hopeless. We've lost the fight against climate change. I don't even care that much about what happens to humans- we deserve it. But oh god all of the animals. The pets. Everything is so so fucked and we're just stuck here because nothing is going to change unless shit gets real fucking violent and nobody wants that. And I feel like nobody around me understands how bad things are going to get in the coming years even though here we can already feel the effects of the heat but what am I expecting from people who support actual starvation of another group of people. Everybody has gone mad but when I say that people should have the option to opt out of this nightmare I'm the mentally ill one?
I just need to know if anyone feels the same as I do.

I see indigenous peoples argue that only genocidal Westerners are killing the planet. Don't blame them, they live in harmony with the Earth.

But homo sapiens have been ruining Earth and driving species to extinction since before they left Africa hundreds of thousands of years ago. Before we had writing, numbers, agriculture, civilization. Before those indigenous societies even existed.

Cupcake you're not completely correct. Some humans did manage to live in harmony with nature. For example some native American Indians hunted the buffalo herds based on how many they were. As in they hunted less when there were less buffaloes. This is one example.

But yeah.. humanity as a whole is a disease for this planet. Even as individuals it's close to impossible to live sustainable. There's no such thing right now.

I recall there were studies of dozens of peaceful and harmonious tribes in europe, but they all got wiped out by the warring tribes. Being compassionate is sadly not often very advantageous in a realm of universal struggle.

You know, what gets me is that it doesn't have to be like that. If the humans would keep their population and their way of life under control all would be well, or at least much much better. But greed..

That was an interesting read- thanks for posting.
I do think cities could have been great for the planet… if humans weren't so stupid.

And the indigenous societies got horribly treated by westerners. The sad thing is when humans see a group of humans that are kinder and more docile, they exploit or destabilize them…
One has a spear, the other just wants to hug. Who will win!?

exactly. Unfortunately we live in a system that incentivizes greed and its leaders don't seem keen on letting it go anytime soon.
Also, I know I'm a huge hypocrite. Complaining about humanity preferring its own comfort over survival as I sit on my phone while my government bombs the shit out of poor people.
At least I'll be gone one day.

All nothing more than utopic bullshit. That life is miserable on earth has nothing do do with the human. Life in its defined nature is miserable. Pain and life are like two sides of a coin you can not seperate one side from another. If you the evolution of the earth there were a already other catastrophic mass extinctions without the human and even their were not what then? Happy planet? Eh not really like I wrote life is miserable at its definition. Animals are killing each other they are doing a lot of sadistic things to each other. (just google it)

The idea that human could be different, it's not true. Humans are the way they are because this helped them to survive. As life and nature is not funny humans had to evolve hard and selfish otherwise they would got extinct. Life is in its definition competitive all species are fighting again each other in some form.

That the american ancestors have been peaceful without the europeans ... Eh you had history in your school?

In my opinion this planet can go to hell as their is no live is than their any suffering?

I really don't understand your post, or why it's written like it is.
Animals can be sadistic, but they don't have the capacity of evil- or the ability to choose it- of humans. Dolphins rape each other, but would they have the ability to commit the holocaust? i don't think so.
Also, the thing that annoys me about people is that we have the capacity and intelligence to choose to plan things out and do better but we don't. Yes, life is hard but humanity could have fought other humans less, not committed genocide, and not put our entire trust in big oil and the likes BUT we didn't and now we're locked into destruction.
Finally, I think you're inferring a lot of things from what I said, some of which are not true. And yes, I did have history lessons at school, and I learned about the horrors that the conquistadors committed. I also learned about the nakba(which doesn't happen often in schools in my country).
Surely, humans are not perfect, but we have that tendency to choose the worse option many times.

The planet has lasted for 4.5 billion years, some eons have been much hotter than now and some much colder. As the climate switched there were mass extinctions and these are what define the eras (sorry for the nerdy reply but I am a geologist). With every change in climate a different species has taken advantage and flourished.

At the moment the dominant life form on this planet is royally fucking up the climate and (hopefully) it will become so inhospitable to them that they will die off in a mass extinction. In effect the human race will commit suicide, and nature will allow another animal species to dominate the planet in the form we left it. Humans will just be fossils buried in a layer of concrete, steel and tarmac for the next intelligent species to dig up and investigate. Maybe their kids will play with model humans 🤔

Learning about that guy David Suzuki in school growing up here in Canada and now hearing him say things which agree with my viewpoints like this is very surreal and I love it a lot. Our overdeveloped human brains and hands which can make good use of it have made it completely inevitable that we'd eventually end up in global ecological overshoot after we evolved into a mental overshoot.

Sure, nothing to do with us. Complete annihilation of everything wherever we go, nothing to do with us, it just happens, it's normal. Of course, we do this to survive. How could we do that without super cars, super housing, electronics, drugs, alcohol, smokes etc etc!? That's right, we should be selfish as fuck and continue with the extermination operation!

History? Mate? I don't think you know what history is.

I'm old and things have never been this bad. Greed has always ruled but even more so now. My country is no longer a democracy, it's a crony capitalist oligarchy. Our checks and balances system is being dismantled in unprecidated ways. There is no job growth. Within 15 years, jobs will be lost due to AI, leaving millions unemployed. I hope younger gens will be able to organize and revolt, bit unfortunately social media has turned us against each other. And most rich folk who pretend to be concerned aboit climate change don't actually care because it doesn't affect them.

So yeah, we are getting closer to the end of times

People need to stop romanticizing Native Americans for fuck sake. They regularly had war parties where they would go and take over weaker tribes, kill the men, enslave the women, and take all of their resources. They certainly didn't live in harmony with their neighbors. This was very common before the white man even stepped foot in North America. They were fucked up, they were never these holy shamans who lived at peace with the earth and smoked peace pipes and what not. That is a fantasy. Now they were a bit easier on the environment because they were hunter-gatherers and only killed what they needed.

I'm in the southern US and the heat is always horrible this month and next. You can't even go outside for more than 30 minutes during the day cause it's (at best) extremely unpleasent. Every summer here for the past five years I've lost my shit, the heat feels like a prison it is literally boiling my brain. I think everyone knows deep down (even the right ring dipshits here) that shit is only going to get worse and humanity is on its permanent downward curve on the graph.

My kind of writing is always like this. I guess I am just an asshole. An asshole who likes cause of boringness to mirror the stupidity of people.

I did not mean the crimes of the conquistadors as everyone knows this. I meaned the crimes what the native americans did. The aztecs did: "Hearts cut out or were decapitated, shot full of arrows, clawed, sliced, stoned, crushed, skinned, buried alive or tossed from the tops of temples." The Mayas were similar and also the Indians did crimes on beaten enemy tribes. That they did it's proven at least most of it as you can find corpses, just the number it still discussed. This is also the reason why the europes have beaten the aztecs so easily, because they confederate with the local people an rebelion (It was not just tecnological advance). Many of this crimes of the spanish conquistadors are exaggerated like the witch hunt in europe is by far exaggerated. As most of the native people died on the illness what the europes carry in. You could blame them for this but they did not know much about illness in this time.

This thing with the humans could do something else, I tried to deny. What we choose is at the end just the product of our brain working. Our brains are here to secure of survival and of our next children and next of our surroundings. Not anything else. Of course you can argue that the well being of the world is also our well being so our brain should care. This entirely true, but we are not in the evolutionary state to think that far. When our lower brain parts choose to be egoistic than it does not matter what our higher brain counscious parts know or not. We are all chained by causality their is no other way out.

As light and dark are not seperable from each other is also not peace and war, pleasure and pain, humility and gruelty. When some one chooses to help some, be kind, and respectful their is another one who had to choose to be evil. This is not only my thinking, look at buddha, Nietsche, Schopenhauer they will all tell you life and pain are not sepperable from each other.

Now what I said was that some humans did manage to live in harmony with nature, SOME humans. I'm sure there were assholes in every age and place just as today. The point that I was trying to make is that it can be done. Humans CAN live in relative harmony with the environment. By relative I mean not taking more then they need. They just don't want to because we're greedy bastards.

The nerdy reply's great- don't worry about it. I was a marine biology student but changed courses. I still love deep sea life.
But yeah, the second paragraph is part of what comforts me. Even though the next intelligent life is going to have a way harder time reaching the industrial age since we dug up a huge chunk of all valuable materials. I hope they'll do better than us.

Yes. I suffer from health issues and from the nothingness, pain and isolation you are able to see the world much better. There is much better view from the sidelines. Even if miraculously healed, I still would have the same world view that I have today. I would still be againt this existence. I'm also from Israel(Tel Aviv), so it's a "pleasant" surprise to see someone from the same country as me.

I reject this life.

Are you actively suicidal?
If you wish to talk at some point i'd be "happy" to.
I wouldn't say actively- i'm waiting for the moment the world won't be livable for me anymore and then I can just leave. In the meantime I'm making what I can of the world, I just want the option to exit on my own terms and not because of any hellish situation

You are not alone. I'm 33 and I cannot believe what a naive fool I was in my teens to believe we could as a world come together and end climate change. i was too optimistically when we banned CFC globally to control the thinning ozone and i had belief we could do the same with climate change and co2 emission. However it never came but i watched as they actively made it worse. I'm Australian and have watched our politicians for decade cave to the interest of coal and gas corps stripping us bare of our resources for free and shipping enormous amounts of coal and gas to the rest of world to burn and release massive amounts of CO2. i have watched them continue to not fund clean electricity and continue to be one to worst emitter per capita. Humanity and it's greed and selfishness continues to be my biggest reason for CTB. i cant stand to watch as the world continues to burn i could care less about humanities survival anymore but i care about the extinction of countless species already and the many more times to come as we haven't even reached the peak of the temperature increase. All the idiots and the selfish around only care about themselves and what wealth they can extract. They care about houses and their investments of them exploit a basic need of shelter to enrich themselves. Not to even mention the environmental impact of the suburban sprawl from the disruption of local ecosystems and the destruction of habitat, the impact of the change of landscape not to mention the impact from emissions to supply inefficiently built infrastructure to house people. Not mention with the increase in extreme weather events more and more disaster demolishes peoples homes and lives and the ones who are most affected through no fault of their own not being born with generational wealth suffer the most and those with more money than they know what to do with will buy it all and rent it back to them.
