I'm no expert but I've seen many cite the .500S&W magnum

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I've seen you post in the partner's mega thread a few times asking for someone's help with a gun.

Anything .40 and up is probably ok. Ever consider a short barrel shotgun (SBS)?

I am US but online it said they arent legal
They're completely legal federally. I don't know what/where you were looking, but I suspect it was older material.

It still could be illegal depending on which state you live. California and New York come to mind.

Yep, a 500 S&W Magnum is the "best" handgun since it's complete and total overkill. It could probably kill a polar bear or elephant with one shot. A 9mm handgun with hollow point rounds is enough though, don't need to go crazy and get a 500 S&W Magnum, which may be hard to find, and also cost you like $2k-$3k.

I don't know where u r getting that it's illegal. Certain states have different laws but they aren't illegal. It's a right to own a gun. It's in the constitution.

"In Pennsylvania, the laws regarding firearms involve restrictions on possession, purchase, and carrying. You must be 21 to purchase a handgun, while long guns can be purchased at 18. To carry a firearm concealed or in a vehicle, a license to carry firearms is required. Open carry is generally legal without a permit, but exceptions apply."

I just noticed you're from PA. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a shorty shotgun, I mean, if that's what you want. It's CA, NY, and MA where they're banned. Ofc, it goes without saying, you have to be legally allowed to purchase a firearm. Other than that, though.......
