Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet (pun intended) and buy a handgun of some sort on my next birthday, as I believe they're fairly accessible here in WI. I guess the countdown begins.

Any tips for the purchase of my first handgun? (I.e. what gun should I buy for the best results, how expensive it might be, details surrounding the background checking process, references to related legislation, ammunition, etc.) Any help would be appreciated.

There is a megathread for firearms, I got a lot of useful info from there regarding what to buy, what to rule out, where to aim, etc. Check the pinned thread "Suicide Resource Compilation"! (idk how to link threads myself)

Have you used a gun before? If not, I would do a bit of internet research. I had never used a gun before so I was going to buy a revolver so I watched videos on how to use it. They are straightforward to use which I thought would be great for someone like me that isn't good at working things.

My personal budget was about 500 bucks.

How do you feel about walking into the store? I was a bit nervous, I didn't want to feel out of place, so I researched general details about guns and watched a few videos on gun store etiquette.

I don't live in the US, so I can't offer anything.

Here is the firearms thread though.

Completely inexperienced with gun handling and purchase.. I'm fairly young so I would feel awkward walking in-store, but anything if it's worth it. If I get my answers, nobody's going to see me again so anxiety and etiquette isn't a main concern for me lol.

Thanks for the megathread reference. I know of a gun range nearby, would it be useful to try something out physically before a purchase? Or does aim not matter if your caliber is large enough?

If I were out looking for a firearm, I would probably go with hunting as my reason. Guess it depends on your area.

Knowing your gun wouldn't hurt either. You don't want to screw up based on a small technical error.

I believe the megathread covers aim and caliber. Essentially you are aiming to destroy the brainstem. Don't place a barrel under your chin as it could blow half your face off without a fatality. Its best in the mouth, aiming slightly upward to hit the back of your head. About eyeball level.

I'm guessing the aiming is more important with a handgun. A shotgun will not leave much left when using the right ammo. You could still screw up though. I knew someone that did, he had to fire a second shot with a portion of his face blown off. (Its believed he shot under the chin and slipped, then fired again into his face)
