From what I read, SN is an oxidizer, just wondering if what's important stays in the water.
I'll be traveling by train to a certain location on the day so wondering if I can prep at home, where I've got a weighing scale, or if I've got to bring the SN and bottled water with me and guess the amount with a spoon.

Does not recommend. Might lose its potency.

Edit: According to The Merck Index, sodium nitrite oxidizes into nitrate "very slowly" with exposure to air, and this MSDS for aqueous SN says that the solution is stable for long periods when stored in a cool place. This article says that the reaction into nitrate is surface area dependent, but I can't afford to unlock the article to read the whole thing to see if it mentions the exact rate of reaction for room temperatures.

I don't know the answer but seems like a huge risk of failure unless/until you get a very definite answer. Why not bring the scale with? Or buy a little cheap food scale to bring along? I've seen them under $20 USD.

Do NOT do that. It converts to nitrate under the influence of oxygen. But you can prepare 2 more glasses of SN just before use in case you vomit.

I think making a solution of SN would be fine if he boiled the water first to remove any dissolved oxygen.

Prepping it earlier in the day was kinda the plan but once I put some thought into it, I started to think, nah, don't want to risk it.
Started this thread in case anyone knew the properties and what actually happens and such, so thanks.

Yep, was planning three 20g cups for certainty. I don't want any chance of failure at all.
