I think there is a positive correlation between sucking at maths and being suicidal (suicidal people tend to have low problem solving skills and creativity).

I can't speak for problem solving outside of myself (which I am good at) but as far as creativity, I think with a bit of research you'll find the best of the best had mental problems.

No, but I still try as hard as I can. Accepted I won't be good at maths or sciences but lowering my expectations to trying another career.

I think that's just a myth perpetrated by the mental health system and pro lifers. From my experience I was very good at mathematics and sciences as well as arts, I was creative. but my problems truly have no solution (diseases with no cure) and I'm able to rationalize that never feeling anything is way better than living in pain 24/7. I think many suicidal people are rational and the reason they are turned to suicide is because of extreme external causes, not because of a personal fault. Considering suicide as an option is not because of lack of problem solving skills IMO.

I also live with chronic pain and will lose my medical insurance soon as well as my income and I can't work so no quality of life will be obtainable.

I never had problems with maths, i guess i was lucky with teachers who cared about their students. About physics though I understood only this what was necessary in my life, meaning zero.

Same honestly. I only recently started to get it (after trying so fucking hard), only to realize that it only requires a really open mind and that it doesn't actually really make sense (like, I was making the mistake of believing that math had to make sense, only when I let go of this idea, I started to get it).
I have always had excellent grades at school in math tho, but I don't consider that understanding.
specially mathematical education.
because math teachers don't really get math either lmao

c'mon, you probably can do multiplications, and divisions, and some linear equations too
I was relatively good at it
worth mentioning that by "good" at math, I don't necessarily mean good grades. I've always had excellent grades but never felt like I understood it

I had decent grades in most of my math classes and though I didn't like take any honors/AP classes, as long as I had good teachers/tutors, I would be able to pick up what to do relatively quickly. When I was taking Business Calculus I was even tied for the top scoring student. Compared to most of the people I went to high school with though, I suck at math because they were all tryhards.

Unfortunately I've always hated math no matter how good at it I was. It doesn't feel rewarding at all, just tedious. Part of it may be because I'm Asian and I'm trying to defy the stereotype by purposely being sucky at math compared to my other Asian peers. Regardless, I still hate math because my brain hurts if I try to think too hard these days and there's always gonna be someone better at math than I am no matter how much I study so why bother? I've already forgotten most of what I learned that is above Algebra level. Math can go jump off a cliff for all I care.

Fundamentally I am not a numbers person. But I am logical so the idea of physics and math makes sense in theory to me, but the calculating and formulating is a big bore. I was always inherently better at writing, language and communication.

I have the greatest admiration for math whizzes.

Not on the level i want to. I can understand physic as a concepts, general ideas how things works. But without math skills it will never be a complete understanding. Mathematics IS the language of the Universe. Analogies are not satisfying enough. Maybe some day i will do my homework...

I taught math at the hs level for some time. Honestly, you won't use the vast majority of what you learn in hs unless you work in a technical career. Focus on programming, languages, and written communication. Some jobs use statistics. You don't need to know how to do the computations (that's done in software), just how to interpret the numbers.

Very useful advices, thank you. Would you say a math degree isn't worth the pain? What would you study if you could start over?

No, a math degree isn't worth it. If you only get a bachelors or masters, the only thing you can do is teach hs. You need a phd to teach at the university level. No real world jobs want someone with a math degree. It's not applied enough. If you like math, get an engineering degree.

If I were to follow my dreams, personal training or sports medicine.

My undergrad degrees are in Finance and Economics. Both are useless - too soft-skill focused. The safe bet would have been computer science, mechanical or electrical engineering, or statistics. Even safer and cheaper would be to become a certified electrician or welder.

Don't like school at all, get a CDL and become a truck driver. Focus on flatbed, oversized loads. You work 60 hours/week, but will easily clear over $100k, and don't even need a hs diploma.

I'm good at math and could be good at physics if I gave a shit. I haven't done math in a while so I'd be rusty with a lot but if I needed to I could get back into it. I feel a lot of people would have a more positive outlook on math if the teachers were better.

For example, I fucking hated pre-calc because my teacher was an absolute cunt to me and didn't teach so I only got a C in her class. I shouldn't have been able to move onto Calc 1 because I got a C when I needed a B to advance but my guidance counselor waved it off and put me in Calc 1 anyways. In Calc 1, my teacher was the greatest and I got an A and never dipped below that. He taught everything with focus and clarity that it was the greatest class those two semesters.

It can be said for all classes that a teacher/professor determines how the class will be but while for stuff like English/History you can sort of get by with a bad professor, Science/Math is almost impossible. Professors can complain all they want about ratemyprofessor and sites like that but really those sites are the only ones that gives students a chance to get the academic experience they want.

I think i might be good at meth:pfff: but I was never good at maths except in 6th and when I repeated 9th grade I was a top scorer because of adults pressuring me then. When they stopped I became hopeless as I am now. As for physics, I sucked the moment I started. I even tried by myself but was still confused af at simple things like those 3variable formulas, don't get me started on proper physics.

It's kinda the expected impact of mental health decline in a lot of cases, isn't it? Same can be said for being slow at track and having a broken leg, I mean.

Maths, physics and IT science were my favorite subjects in school. They were the easiest as you didn't have to learn so many things by heart, just do some exercises and you were sure you'll get good grade.

Life-skills problem solving is not the same as mathematical problem solving. Also, I see no particular reason why only non-creative people would become suicidal. Everybody's lives suck some of the time, and some people's lives suck all the time. Your mental abilities will not necessarily protect you from disaster.

Anyone who comes up with a way to problem-solve their way out of that pickle (short of the extinction of humanity and therefore its suffering) is going to win every Nobel Prize there is at the same time.

That said, no, I'm not any good at math. So bad I was never even qualified to take physics, lol. I did think "A Brief History Of Time" was neat, though.
