I can't stop thinking about my parents seeing my body if they choose to view it or want to identify it themselves.

My plan has been to use a 12 guage shotgun with 00 buckshot, but I could also use a .357 magnum revolver with hollowpoints to leave my body looking presentable instead. Its just that there seems to be a very slight chance I could survive for a few minutes as I bleed out if I got the shot placement wrong, or, in the absolute worst case scenario, I could be "saved" in the window between shooting myself and death, however unlikely that may be.

Am I overthinking this? I could just avoid leaving a groteeque body by using a revolver late at night in an isolated enough place with a timed email to the police department and hope that if I don't die immediately I bleed out, but even if the chance of me living from a handgun is less than 5% it is still getting to me.

Is it wrong to prioritize a minute increase in the odds of success over leaving behind something terrible?

I don't think so.
I wish I was in your position.
I don't have a .357 or any other.

Don't do it unless your absolutely sure and you are 100% committed.
You don't want to end up just badly hurt.

There's no objective metric for anything to be wrong. I would personally take every measure to ensure success, but I'm just a guy on the internet. Whatever you feel is more valuable, your parents' slightly decreased horror or a slightly increased chance of success.

i don't have much advice, but if you live in the US i'm pretty sure that your parents would have to pay for someone to clean up the mess or they have to do it themselves, there is no outside entity that does the clean up free of charge. hopefully you can stay with us a little long, my pm's are open if u wanna talk

Thank you for your kind offer <3
I have heard of that. I am grateful to be living far away from my parents so they wouldnt have to find me. I was also planning on doing it outside so that the cleanup would be easier and done by the police department instead of by the landlord. I'm just worried my parents would choose to see my body in the morgue anyways, despite knowing that I killed myself with a shotgun.

I'm thinking about doing it too. My plan is to go out to isolated park or forest under a tree away from the main road. My 17 yo cousin shot himself through his mouth, but he didn't bleed. I wonder if the police cleaned the blood! I don't think so… When they moved his body, we didn't see any blood. We saw him, his face was fine but his head was open from the top like a cone. I don't mind that look honestly. I just want to end my life. People fall and messed up their face. My only problem is my parents don't even know I'm struggling so it's going to painful for them. My friend used sn but he looked blue and black, like a ghost. It was terrifying seeing him.

I have no idea what it ends up like. Lots of people have died from pistol and rifle shots here in my area lately. I knew some of them, but we don't have an open coffin in church. Anyway, I would think about myself and even though the chances of survival with a 357 magnum are negligible, I would choose a 12 gauge which is guaranteed. I don't care how they find me.

when my time comes. After my dog goes, I'm hanging. I plan to leave a big note on my locked door saying what I've done, that it happened 10 plus hours ago (cos I know what time I'll be found) so he knows I can't be saved and do not come in that room just call 999. He knows I'm done so it shouldn't be too shocking

If the poster is age 18 or older then they are their own "estate", being a legal adult. The estate pays for clean up and any debts. The remaining value of the estate is then distributed to the deceased Beneficiarys cited in their Will by the Estate Executor. If the deceased left no Will and appointed no Estate Executor, then it's up to a probate judge to decide what happens. Get a Will and an Estate Executor and save your parents from that trauma
