A Woman feared asphixiating and choking with Motor.Neurons disease. Her plea for assisted dying had been rejected.

Needless to say she died in the way she feared most

You would think even the most closed minded would look for options seeing their relatives suffer in fear. Thing is she may not have had those types of relatives. I have friend who Mum was pretty cruel to him as a child. They kind of went their separate ways. He's a cool nice guy. He's helped me out on my health issues journey. We were friends before that of course. He got a call a few years ago informing his mum had died. She'd died by suicide but as a result of terminal cancer that was clearly painful as she was found with a hole in her chest where she'd apparently dug into it due to the pain. (I guess that's open to interpretation in fairness). He had to clean up her remains with his girlfriend. (were they still in contact I'm certain he'd have tried to help in whatever way available. He's a good person). She'd decayed badly as she wasn't found immediately. She'd been looking at assisted euthanasia but couldn't afford it. The only people with any knowledge of her issues were her work colleagues (who'd eventually reported her missing) and she had no friends so she died alone as a result. There's a lot of people without friends or family.

But you're right, she had no chance at a peaceful exit even if her family was aware of the cancer. And even so, most likely he would not have procured the exit drugs for her. @Rational man can you clarify if the woman who died from mnd had family?

Sounds like Europe. U.S. mainly use ALS where Europe uses the term MND.

That's an awful story. I can't believe our society is so adamant on not offering euthanasia. It really is sickening.

case was in.UK. I think rhe issue surrounded getting assistance to the Swiss clinic. Anyone who helped her get there could break the law. The court's.said no. She couldn't get there independently because she was incapacitated by MND/ ALS. She probably choked and drowned in her own saliva, mucus and bubbly mess .

That is so horrifying. It is so cruel how the society denies people the option of a peaceful exit. No one should have to die like that. To me it is so awful how diseases like that even exist in the first place. Life really is so terrifying as there is no limit as to how much we can suffer.

Yes. Life's curveball can strike ANYONE at anytime. She had a family and life was going okay. And then MND. The haunting part is her prediction of end. I wonder if doctors looked on while she drowned in body liquids. ?

That's so sad. My uncle had MND and we had to watch him deteriorate. Luckily he died peacefully in the end sitting in his armchair . Assisted dying should always be available in these situations

And yet we Allow this torture to continue, hidden in the name of sanctity of life. As long as the high minded have control over how we die, there will be little changes. Its so easy to write a mindless article about terminal illness, pain and suffering and yet so hard to feel it when your not in our position.

dying peacefully is my prefered choice. I do fear the pain and.vomiting. Ive.seen a few people die with foam coming out of their mouth, unable to swallow.

Yes, she was in her 50s, married with children, now adults.
