Why did this entire thing even happen?

Like why did the universe even begin? Why can't we be like other animals with very minimal conscious experience... Why do we have to have this self awareness and the capability of experiencing suffering. Where does this thing even lead? It's so confusing man...

Some conspiracy theorists believe that aliens mated with apes on Earth which resulted in birth of humans. Honestly I believe this theory because I can't justify any other reason why humans were burdered with consciousness.
Depending on who you ask, people will say that we're either lucky or unlucky that our sapience is better than other humans due to evolution. Of course I think that it's unlucky. Also, I personally think that there isn't too much nuance to your questions that you think there is. As for how the universe began, the answer that is based on evidence as opposed to belief is the big bang. As for how we're self aware and can experience suffering, the answer based on evidence is evolution and how experiencing suffering, to an extent, keeps the human body alive for as long as possible (example being how putting your hand near a flame of fire would automatically make your hand move away from it. Another example is survival instinct).
As for where it leads, it all ultimately leads to extinction as no species can live on forever, especially not when considering entropy and all. There is no objective meaning for us, at least none that is proven to exist. We're all going to die anyway and that's an objective fact. It's up to us to make our own meaning within the bounds of our lives and responsibilities that we got forced into.
In my case, I made the conclusion that there isn't a meaning for me to want to voluntarily endure life and the responsibilities it offers but, at the end of the day, you're free to make your own meaning or lack thereof. Either way, I wish you the best of luck and that you find peace

Because consciousness/Brahman got bored of experiencing life just as animals. Was like watching a 24/7 nature channel over and over, without the cool music soundtrack. So it created the human soap opera. Even though it's pretty much the same storylines over and over, at least there's drama to keep it interesting for Brahman.
I think the real tragedy isn't natural at all, it's how greedy humans perpetuate systems that make life shit for most just so they can chill in nice yachts doing whatever they want basically. I think consciousness is great but in a society like this of course some people would rather not be

We don't know why life came into existence, we don't know what consciousness really is and why molecules in certain configuration (us humans) have that kind of consciousness and self-awareness. Maybe a yet undiscovered quantum field is responsible for that.
If you have an infinite amount of time everything is possible even a universe that makes conscious beings possible.
I've wondered this as well, why did the universe begin and why did life arise out of nothing and nowhere? I think it might have to do with entropy, as systems (actually, more like everything) will always tend towards disorder. Still, this doesn't explain the existence of intelligent beings though.

Interesting, I heard a theory (in one of Dolores Cannon's books) about how the aliens selected the great ape to become the intelligent species on this planet. Apparently the aliens gave them some DNA that allowed them to gain consciousness and intelligence, resulting in humans.
