Why are people not apathetic?

People with really bad lives still find the motivation to work hard just to survive. On the other hand I have zero motivation even to wake up and am wasting my life away. Really surprises me how people keep going and just don't give up

I assume they have personal goals to achieve or responsibility to take care such as pet, child, or old parent.

I guess many people feel like they have no choice but to keep going. Suicide can be very difficult after all. Also, I think that a lot of people are still alive only for the sake of others, or they fear death. For many people it can be hard to let go of this life as this existence is all they know, and all humans are programmed to survive.
I personally see existence as being very pointless, life is basically just suffering for the sake of it. If there was an option to fall asleep and never wake, of course I would take it.
