Where is the erase memory button?

I had an accident in my youth. I remember getting into the car, the next thing I remember I woke up on the operating table and tried to get up. The memory of the accident was erased. Where is this button?

Interesting thought. It takes the brain a little while to convert short-term memories to long term memories in the brain, which is why there is a period of memory loss when some brain injuries happen, like a severe concussion. Once it is in long-term memory that's a tough situation.

Oh man, if you find it please let me know! I've dreamed of such a thing for years. Imagine how different life would be if we could, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," our way out of bad memories?

There are some things you can do to reroute the brain's pathways and we are learning that memory is malleable, but I haven't tried any of the methods in earnest. Yet.

the mind tends to forget traumatic events as some sort of protective mechanism. i dont remember much from the bullying at school or the abuse I endured at the hands of my parents as a result of this, though it would be nice to forget it all.
