Can someone give me some advice on which rope to use. Bdsm, jute, hemp, synthetic hemp, nylon, etc. I have failed twice with partial, rope over door tied to door handle. First time bdsm rope ( approx 6mm ) held fine, but somehow the door opened and i failed. Second time again i used bdsm ( 6mm ) but this time the rope snapped and i woke up, confused and lying on the floor, so i am not confident in bdsm rope now. I am trying to find a rope, approx 6mm, which i have used and know exactly where to position it to pass out ( about 2cm under adams apple ). I am looking for a rope ( i am using a double slip knot - i found when practising, a single slip knot, sometimes didnt hold properly ), which will tighten around my neck quickly and but with enough friction, not to loosen, when i move about, when SI kicks in and will comfortably hold all my weight ( 90 kg ). My anchor point is going to be the rope attached to a metal caribiner, which i can easily attach to attach to a metal fence. Any advice is welcome.

6 mm may be too small--especially given it broke on you. Regardless, look into climbing rope, which you can buy by the foot at an outdoor store. You probably want "static line"--that is, designed not to stretch.

I'm looking at partial or full for myself, and it seems like using a metal ring to cinch with, rather than a knot, might be a better way to go, as it will tighten a lot more, so it will get the carotid arteries more effectively. Again, available at the friendly outdoor store.

Clever thinking on the carabiner!

My rope is around 15 mm. It is not just a matter of strength. A thinner rope is less effective at compressing the carotid. My rope is a soft hemp which I got from a sail boat supplier. Choronzon is right about the metal ring, it lets the rope slip freer, tightening up better around the neck.

I have found the thinner the rope, the easier it is to compress the carotid arteries. I have now bought a 8mm nylon braided rope ( breaking strain 600kg ). I am sure this will be suitable.
