Besides the obvious things (exercise, mindfulness, therapy, getting enough sleep, eating healthy, medication), what things have helped you in your journey out of depression?

Spending more time hanging out with or talking to friends. It gives me something to look forward to and definitely helps me keep my mind occupied

I've been working on my ACEs. Achievements, Creativity/Connections and Enjoyment. On the really rough days or weeks I'll try my best to focus on one thing instead of all three. It's been helpful for me I think

Try doing something new, often. You avoid stagnation, you learn skills, depending on what exactly it is you do you meet people, get fit, become a more interesting person. All of these things to do wonders for you, and life has more luster when you see more of it. Very hard to do when you're at your worst, of course, but for those that have the ability, I believe in it. Recently forced myself out of a rut by learning to make 3D stuff in Blender, didn't even have to go outside due to lots of good information online.

I agree with finding a new hobby or just something to distract yourself. Personally I find wandering around in grocery stores and checking out all the aisles quite a therapeutic activity.

socialize! you don't need to have a lot of friends to form meaningful connections, and those lead to amazing experiences that really improve your quality of life

I have found taking care of plants helpful. I enjoy looking at them and feel good when they thrive (on the other side, I've also felt horrible when when I kill them). Keeping an eye on them is grounding and helps me develop a routine.
