Today at work I started to tear up for no good reason. I hate when I get the urge to cry at work.

But I wonder. Is crying sometimes good or sometimes bad? Should I cry when I am able or should I just continue avoiding it when I can?

If anyone has a link with useful info maybe talking about studies or something that would be appreciated.

Typically I feel crying is just focusing on the negative too much. Idk

Cry while you can. I used to cry a lot in 2020. But now my ability to cry has been diminished. Depression debilitated my crying ability. I'm emotionally numb and now I can't even rant about my problems.
So in my opinion, just cry to take off the burden from your shoulders. Don't think crying is sign of a weak person. It is not.

The "big boys don't cry" thing fucked men up. I think in 2017-8 it started to become apparent.
The Kanye (and later, Bo Burnham, which started as a joke, but ended on a rather real issue) rant was real.
I broke an about 25 year (first 7 years don't count) record of not crying when I had a meltdown with my father and he didn't know what to do. Big boys don't cry after all.
An actor, I forgot who, admitted to crying in public.
With all this, I say you should indeed cry. Maybe not while you're at your job, but at your car or in your home. It's an important release.

There's a reason people talk about "having a good cry", OP. We cry because it's cathartic, it's a release of pent-up negative emotions.

Yeah, crying is definitely a good release valve for the emotional buildup. If you keep suppressing it, it will definitely eat away at you both mentally and physically. Don't go that route. The consequences are pretty severe and as stated above can lead to difficulty in dealing with any emotions at all.

I've cried at work many times, I hide in the toilet, and then leave with puffy eyes and leave my colleagues ask me if I'm ok. It's perfectly ok. Sometimes crying eases the pain. Sorry that you feel a bit down. A big hug.

Cry everything you need and how much you need it. With or without apparent reason. Hiding the emotions is not good. They will go out somewhere and it will be worse.

I cry in the toilet at work too. I understand , I started crying for no reason in the cab home the other day. Emotions all over the place.you let it out!

Crying is definitely a good release. I wish I could cry every once in a while but my medication has made me numb and calm.

Sometimes crying can be an inner reaction to losses. I'm 70..my 78 year old sister is showing signs of dementia, a few of my childhood friends have died and my husband is 82. Loss reality slaps you in the face 😔 at this point. I feel you must let this energy out by crying. Shoving it down or holding it in is very hard because it is like denying those very real and painful things. If I was in work.. I'd promise myself when I get outside.. I will have myself the good cry that I need.

No weakness!! It is a very strong energy ⚡ that needs an outlet. Let yourself 😢 cry it out when you can. If someone told you to shut up when you broke your leg you would tell them to go to youknowwhere.. Emotions are strong pains also....
