Suicide ideation

How long from suicide ideation to attempts can it be? I've had ideation for years maybe decades but never attempted but it looks more and more likely it will come to that?

I've had ideation and a passive, later on active, death-wish for five years. Some people might be passively or even actively suicidal for a long lifetime of 90 years and end up dying of a heart attack, really depends on the person.

Been passively suicidal all my life, i have periods where intent and thought is quiet and managable to background noise. Periods of loud intrusive thoughts. Currently in my strongest, longest period with intent....

23 years now for me, on and off until the last 5 or so years and on the whole time for the last 6 months. Never made an attempt but so sure that I will do soon.

Suicidal ideation to actually trying it depends on your personal circumstances. For me, I needed a line of life events to push me over the edge. After I had my first brush of death, I don't think about suicide anymore, I just up and do it whenever I want to.

I had suicidal ideation as a child and then not at all.
Had suicidal ideation for the last 5-6 years again before my 1st attempt a year ago. I've made 4 attempts in the last year but I always stopped myself.

I think it depends on the person and also the methods available to them. Some can think about it all their life and some can go on a whim.
