subject 01's half-assed art

[Subject 01]

hi hi! thank you for clicking! even if i gave up on art years ago (and it is still a sour subject to me), i find it kinda therapeutic to draw nonetheless because it used to be what helped me as a child to cope. i was at work last saturday and i was having a pretty bad day, so i went home and drew in order to exteriorize all the bad feelings.

as the title points out, it's half-assed, i can't lie, but it's not downright horrible either (i hope), so i thought why not post it?

contrary to what this drawing might suggest, i don't hate my job (even though i don't love it either... i'm quite indifferent to it). it's just that i'm suicidal most of the time which kinda sucks when you're trying to concentrate (one time I forgot to give the poor woman her change. i felt so embarrassed when she pointed that out lmao). my coworkers are rather nice to me, but i have a feeling that they're not super nice behind my back... i hear them talk shit about other coworkers like all the time, and i highly doubt i'm spared from mean comments considering i'm the slowest on the team, but i'd rather just not know nor ask and live my life as it is. i've got enough problems lol ^_^ i try not to show to clients that i'm struggling, though, because nobody wants to deal with a rude cashier even if it's just for two minutes. i feel like i'm doing a pretty good job so far, honestly, it's just that this particular saturday was rather overwhelming and i found it difficult to "smile" like i always do.

maybe i'll have the opportunity to draw more and this will turn into a thread, but i highly doubt it considering i draw once every blue moon due to me giving up on it. still, it actually kinda helped!

even though i can see what you mean by it, i always enjoy looking more at drawings that were made quick and more carelessly. i'm not sure how to explain, it makes them feel more genuine and spontaneous. like you cared more about the message than the technique. that's just for me though, and i wish i could draw more like that too

you're so so kind, thank you! yeah that's on purpose, the background is supposed to be static (and scribbles on top) so it feels overwhelming (like mental noise), which is why it's so scribbly and hard to read. im glad the message came through :)

honestly that's such a nice way to see it. i never thought of it like that but it actually makes me appreciate my art a bit more now and i don't see it as half-assed anymore, which is a rather rare feat. thank you so, so much, i love how you see things, it was really insightful!!

i'm so sorry that you relate to this :( i hope you're not too hard on yourself. i know sometimes i am, so... but at the same time, who cares if we're slow as long as we do the job right? thank you for the kind words, and i'm rooting for you too! yeah, we'll definitely get the hang of it, i like how positive you are ^_^ we got this twin!!

I like the style; it captures the doldrums in which the cashier finds themself quite well. I also like that there's a hint of freneticism in the linework and shading, hinting at some buried irritation.

I've run a cash-register before, so maybe I'm just projecting my own experience onto the image, haha.

thanks a bunch! you nailed exactly what i was going for, i'm glad i managed to pull that off. damn, i didn't realize that it was a universal thing among cashiers... knowing that people can recognize that feeling and relate to it kinda makes me "glad" in a way because the drawing is doing its job right i guess! also english is not my first language and i just learned a cool new word! i'd never heard of the word doldrums before but it fits the piece perfectly!! ^_^
