Sodium nitrite vs Pentobarbital

I keep seeing sodium nitrite posted here and I was curious how dogs are put down, they use a chemical called pentobarbital

I'm not chemist, does any one the difference between these two and which would be more pain free?

Pentobarbital would be more peaceful you quickly lose consciousness after taking.

sodium nitrite has nothing to do with dogs being put down, it's an inorganic salt that is commonly used in the meat industry.

pentobarbital is a drug that was used for anesthesia and insomnia before safer alternatives were available, now it's almost exclusively used as an euthanasia agent on small animals and humans but only in countries where it's legal to do so.

out of the two, pentobarbital is by far the better one. but sourcing it is extremely hard for some people and it's also many times as expensive as SN.
