I wonder what the percentage that resulted in death is for just sodium nitrite. I'm a little surprised at how low the rate they listed is. Of course it accounts for aborted/disrupted attempts as well. Thanks for sharing.

Only 15%?
Shit, I am sort of worried about my method, especially since I opened the SN for about 2-8 seconds so there's a chance my SN spoiled overtime

I could buy 15% for SN at least based on my understanding, which admittedly may not be as much as others here. Drug ingestion fatality has always been reported as being fairly low. This is partially because they are prone to being misclassified as accidental ODs and also because it's a pretty popular method that many botch by not using more effective, but not as readily accessible, drugs, picking a poor location/timing to do it, etc, etc.

15% would still be pretty successful by the standards of drug ingestion methodology as a whole which I typically see being reported as well under 10%, anywhere from 1.5 to 6.2 IIRC.

I wonder if they mean 15% of reported cases to poison control have resulted in death. Meaning out of everyone who called for help, 15% even while being taken to the ER did not make it. This is kind of bugging me now. Maybe it will make me calmer when I take my SN, you know it convinces my Survival Instinct that....ehhhh only 15% of people die from this, I'll be fine. This better work, honestly, I can't fail, I can't stay here.

I thought 15% was crazy low but then they're counting NitrAte in that. I can see how someone who doesn't use this forum could easily mix those two up. Heck, even with this forum a lot of people do and ask if their pink salt will work.

I'm still at ease with my SN plan.

No, I'm pretty sure this is in reference to cases reported to poison control.

Yup.

IMO that number seems low due to people who were
- calling for help
- being found early
- used pickling salt (and don't use SS)

The article in the NYT is most likely one of the major drivers.

It doesn't mean the method is bad. It works if you follow the guidelines.

Thanks for sharing this @.CTB !

I think another way to word it might be that despite a call to poison control and effort to get help, 15% died anyhow.

Unfortunate. I say that because it worries me that SN will be recalled and they will only sell SN with lower purity than what is required to use to CTB.

Yeah I agree. I see so many threads saying that it's impossible to restrict SN due to its legit curing reason but like... It's really not? Seems quite simple for a country to restrict all sales/imports of high percentage SN to non-businesses, because technically any home curer can do just fine with 6%.

My country has already prevented all sales of SN to non-businesses/labs but thankfully I managed to import mine since it's not yet illegal.

Oh good to know. I am still worried about my SN being exposed to oxygen, does opening the bag for 8 seconds then immediately close it risk SN to oxygen exposure?
