I am not a psychologist, but in my mind this demonisation of suicidality to the point that a supportive community, that gives people who harbour a deep wish to die at least some solace and aids them in shaping their death as peaceful as possible, gets portrayed as evil suicide cult, primarily stems from two factors.

First, people are egoistic. Most people know how it is like to lose someone, of course nobody wants their suicidal loved one to die, even if that means lifelong suffering for the suicidal person.

Second, and I think even more significant: Most "normal" people just don't get that there is suffering that warrants dying. They may think something like "yeah I was lovesick once and wanted to die, but now I am happy to be alive", ignoring that there can be unfixable problems, much greater suffering, lifelong psychological or physical conditions and traumas. Maybe some even were long-term suicidal before and there was actually a fix for them, and since there was a fix for their problems, they think everyone's can be fixed. For "normal" people, our death wishes aren't comprehensible, because they think they know how it is like when they don't.

I forgot why I started to write that. So, uh, anyway, you people here are sweet, keep it up.
