Requirements to enter chat has been changed

Confusingly enough there are 3 different things on here. DMs called "conversations", private chats with another member and a public chat room. This thread is about the last I think.

What is the difference between a dm and a pm here? Ime they usually a different term for the same thing? And thanks for explaining!

Public chat and private chat are under the same thing and so both are covered by the restriction described by the original post of this thread.

I'm fairly sure DM (Direct Message) and PM (Private Message) are different terms for the same thing.

What confused me, and kind of still does is the difference between a Conversation and DMs. I've not sent or recieved any DMs while I've had one conversation with one user.
Am I right in what I think; Conversations can be a "group chat" where more than two users can participate, whereas DMs are private messages between two users only?
