i have other methods in mind but jumping would for sure be the easiest one. my dorm is on the third floor, but i'm scared to end up with just two broken legs. if i fall right, what are the chances i'd die on impact? or is it better to look into other methods?

Sure If land just right, no one knows what the chances are. Lots of people have died from shorter distances. And lots have lived and ended up in far worse circumstances.

Can you die from falling off third floor? Yes. But the probabilities would not as high as you would hope. The worst thing that could happen wouldn't be broken legs, it would be a broken spine and paralysis.

Unless you are desperate and are okay with doing a very risky gamble on whether you will die or end in a state worse than what you are in now, definitely look into other methods or jump from a much higher height.

Low chance. You'll probably just end up crippled or with permanent damage

You'd have a pretty good chance if you could land on your head, which you can't.

Guy in the psych ward with me tried from third floor. His foot was a little messed up. I have researched this extensively and some people have lived falling out of planes thousands of feet up. Don't wind up in prison hospital.

You can also die if you slip on a banana peel and fall awkwardly, but the third floor isn't nearly high enough to be safe. Don't do that!

With all these hero's out here saving lives, I wouldn't chance it! Someone is going to see or hear you and come running. I think maybe a few broken bones but prob not death.

There is a chance but it's nowhere near high enough to be reliable.

I've personally seen someone who jumped from an 8 storey building and ended up with a TBI, spinal injury, and open book pelvic fracture. Patient likely survived, with permanent and life-changing injures. I'm in no way encouraging you to find a higher building though. I'm just saying that jumping from a shorter distance is not a reliable method and will likely make your quality of life even worse.

This is no joke, in the US around 17,000 people die each year from slipping and tripping at ground level. It's also a leading cause of brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.

If you're not elderly and frail, you should look for something at least 150 feet, or around 15 stories, for reasonable confidence of death.

I would not be so scared of a couple of broken legs, that would be a lucky outcome. I'd be scared of widespread fractures, major trauma to internal organs, spinal cord injury, and brain injury. Falling from that height could easily leave you in a wheelchair, or with loss of brain function having to relearn basic things like how to speak again, or trapped in bed in a vegetative state.

If you could land on some nice metal spikes, that would improve your chances.

Probably not. You'd have to land on your neck or some really specific spot.

Not worth it at all imo. Chances are unpredictable(even if you try to land on your head or something), risks are too high and its something you really dont wanna mess up. Some ppl already mentioned some consequences of a failed attempt above, so i'd think twice before trying anything if i were you.

chances are low I'm afraid, even from my 5th floor apartment it is quite low that one could succesfully ctb and not just end up paralyzed
