Please don't leave your pet in your house/apartment alone/with your body. This can cause extreme anxiety for your pet. I have seen gore pictures of this. Don't assume shit will work out and whoever finds them and you will find a good shelter or place for your pet to go.

Take care of it prior to ending your existence. Post on Reddit in a sub for your city. Take a picture. Say they live in an abusive household and need a good home (a pal posted this and got some good responses). Post on Craigslist pets. Perhaps find a shelter to take them to, but go to shelter and walk around and really decide if you think this is a good move or a bad move for your pet.

Perhaps take pet to the vet to be euthanized. I truly wish I would have done this for one of my pets who I unfortunately gave anxious pet to an unsuitable owner; I regret this every second.

I know shit is really hard and it's very difficult to get things done or accomplished. Try to do right by your pet before you exit.

Shit is hard enough for them dealing with you being sad and unhappy. Make arrangements for them.

I registered with the Cat Guardian/Cat protection league a few months ago. I have a key fob, credit type card which I carry with me alongside a certificate with instructions that they need to he contacted the moment I go. I also had to fill out a long application form telling the CPL my cat's preferences, likes, dislikes, habits, fears, food likes, sleeping habits, sociability, etc etc. That took a few hours as I wanted to make sure she is properly cared for. I also.asked that they take her toys, bed, cat tree etc.
I will miss my cat. I love her a great deal.

I really wish I could have found an option like this. How will they be contacted? What did you tell them about the reason for you wanting to find her a home? Will she be in a cage at a shelter? Uggggg it's so hard. My biggest regrets are my pets etc.

My pets are the one reason I'm still here. I bitterly want to CTB but I can't until certain things are taken care of for them. I keep telling myself to hold on until things are in place. Which is a few months away. Its hard though...

Hi - In my home there will be the registration certificate on the floor in plain view. The wallet credit type card will be in my purse. The key fob on my key. There will be a window sticker (they also gave me) on my front door which also has a window on it. I will post an urgent letter in my mother's door and neighbour's beforehand letting them know they need to contact the Guardian service straight away. I may even phone the Guardian service as well beforehand and tell them where my front door key is.
The Cat Guardian company are solely there for people who have died. The certificate says:

"Arrangement for my cat/s
I am registered to the Cat Guardian service provided by CPL. In the event of my death, Cat Protection will arrange suitable care for my cat/s until they find them a loving new home"

...... and it has my details on plus the date of registrations and the name of my cat.

So the service is not there for people who simply want to re-home their cat/s. They are not judgemental about why you have died - just that the cat/s are taken care of afterwards.

My pets are the one reason I'm still here. I bitterly want to CTB but I can't until certain things are taken care of for them. I keep telling myself to hold on until things are in place. Which is a few months away. Its hard though...
I felt exactly the same way as you but my decision was precipitated by another recent trauma. I had always thought that no one could care for my cat they way in which I can as she is so fussy about so many things... but using the Cat Guardian service in my country I was able to spend time writing down what her foibles are....

Yes, I agree that it is important to think about pets. Luckily family members will be able to take care of my cat. If there was nobody to take care of my cat that I knew, I would certainly make arrangements and make sure my cat was in a safe place, where she would be looked after before I ctb.

You're lucky. I found a place for two of them, but not a good one for one. I wasn't thinking at the time well. I was losing my stability financially and it was just a really hard time. I worry about her everyday...every minute. This was a few years ago.
