Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

People who commit suicide think less than we do...right?

In the world, there's a suicide every 40 seconds...and as for attempts (successful or not), let's not even talk about it,
it must be one every 2 or 3 seconds.

I think people have a general plan, they've thought about how to do it, but they're not like us, wanting to control every single detail, etc...

In my country, there are children who commit suicide in their bedrooms at their parents' house, people who commit suicide in prison even though they only have sheets and are under surveillance, etc...

I think we overthink things. What do you think?

I think it's a matter that deserves all the thought. Better to think of the details, and then question everything a hundred times, than do something dumb, survive and regret everything. And yeah, it seems the majority really attempts during times of crises without thinking things through, that's what the numbers suggest

The vast majority of suicides are actually an impulsive response to a violent crisis. Children generally use unplanned and extremely violent methods like hanging or jumping from a roof because their brains can't handle overwhelming emotions, have difficulty projecting themselves into the future, and don't fully understand death. I know a 14-year-old girl with no particular problems, loved by her family, who hanged herself in the middle of the stairs without any warning signs, simply because she had an argument with her friends on social media. Just one violent emotion, and within 10 minutes, she was dead. Making a plan, setting a long-term date, etc, demonstrates that the person is capable of planning for the future instead of acting impulsively, and therefore has less chance of actually committing suicide.

I'd rather research it and make sure I want to do it, go the way I want and do it right. The last thing I'd want is to survive only to be stuck in a hospital with people trying to help me again when I don't want their help. I recall them trying to force me to go to certain meetings. The really wanted to control me so took away my privileges, my visitation with family and my own clothes. Had to wear a hospital gown all because I didn't want to work a program that wasn't for me.

I've had so many attempts without thinking that I don't even know the exact number anymore; over 10, for sure. I need to die. I need to get this right

I think desperation can be a powerful motivator in this. I know for myself, that I'm trying to think about ways to trigger an episode of intense desperation when my time comes to help me push past an SI. I obviously worry that's not something you can really plan out. Its nice to fantasize about a peaceful exit, but I'm not sure that's what we all have in store. If this is something we want, we may need to be prepared to lean into a moment of crisis.

I don't think so. Most people only see someone suddenly taking their own life, but they have no idea how many times that person had already rehearsed it in their mind before they actually did it.
