Okay
Clearly I don't want to involve ALL members of this forum. I am not complaining. It's just a fact.
I have read many stories of failed attempts but "some" basically throw hate because they think that the CTB failed story is a lie. that it is impossible. that the method does not work that way...etc. I have even had the same thing happen to me, calling me a liar.

I can't believe that "some" on this forum believe that these stories are false.
hey! there are people who have survived jumping off buildings, bullets to the head, cutting, etc. On the other hand, maybe there are fake stories but I don't know.

Sorry if I am being explicit but it is the reality.

Do we really have to justify all the details of the attempt? fight with the forum members to make them believe us?
Ah... too bad.

I'll freely admit that I'm skeptical, at times, of some of the stories that surface. Maybe that wouldn't be so if I didn't know that there are plenty of anti-choicers lurking this forum, who use all kinds of tactics, including making up failure stories to scare people, in order to strip away people's autonomy over their own bodies and life decisions. If a "story" strikes me as suspect, and if I decide to post a comment, for me it's usually a "one and done" kind of comment, whereby I (non-threateningly) just state my peace and move on. I rarely ever get into a back and forth with anyone regarding this matter. It's all true what you said. People do survive falls, shooting themselves, hanging, what have you. I can't discount that. Some accounts just have more of an air of truthfulness than others, though.

Ehhhh, whether anyone believes you or not, that's on them. You don't have to explain why it failed.

As you said, people have survived jumps, gunshots, cutting, etc... The reason the attempt failed is countless.

I'm not wasting my time arguing with anyone about a failed attempt.

Skepticism should be reserved for the most absurd of stories IMO. If it's fake, it's someone wanting attention. If it's not, it's someone who really had a failed attempt. What's worse? Giving someone attention for a lie, or discrediting the experiences of someone who was so close to death? People forget or remember details wrong, especially in such a situation.

Yeah, I've witnessed it too and it is really unfortunate, seeing as this may be one of the only places we can turn to to discuss this kind of thing. Plus, a failed attempt is bound to be traumatic. We would very likey need support at that stage.

I've seen a fair bit of (verging on) hate following SN fails. I have a suspicion this is because a lot of us are likely considering this method. Not to excuse it of course but we probably want to believe it works very well and it will work for us.

We probably ought to be grateful that people share their failed attempt descriptions and, why they might have failed. I guess though- picture something like this scenario: You're just about to make a sky dive. Just preparing to leap out the plane and someone starts describing all the times a parachute has failed etc.

I guess people just get anxious and defensive when their belief in the safety/ effectiveness of something they are about to rely on is challenged.

I personally haven't gotten that kind of treatment with my story, but I'm really sorry you have. What happened to me is incredibly personal and I hate even thinking about the details of it. I can only imagine you'd feel the same. I just try not to talk about my attempt too much, I want to try focusing on things that are positive right now so it doesn't get to that point again. If you ever need someone to talk to about these experiences, if it ever gets too painful, I'll listen and take your story at face value. I don't think approaching you with skepticism would really do me any good. You're probably a good-hearted person who just wants to help.

That's true. I wonder why SN is more popular than firearms, especially for americans. Not much chance to recover when your brain is a million pieces scattered about the floor. It's instant as well and pulling the trigger is quite smooth. I personally am terrified of dying slowly, consciousness fading.

You could say people don't want the sense of security they have in the method to be in question so while they will understand that the method does have room for error and failure, stories that seem to have more flaws than one earn eyebrow raising skepticism, sometimes even turning the anxiety all the way up to 11. I just wish that people were more considerate in understanding that sure, you can follow a protocol and plan accordingly but that doesn't erase all possibility of it still going completely wrong.

I think maybe it's because they want an open casket or a peaceful corpse (that's what I want) in a sense so that the people who leave behind can get a better closure maybe

Do you even know all the details of your failed attempt? I can't remember a lot of what happened surrounding mine. I remember laying down on my bed, I guess I passed out at some point. I remember brief moments of things after. I don't remember a lot of it. It would be hard to explain what happened and there are a lot of holes.

I want that as well. I'm weirdly obsessed with becoming a cool looking skeleton when I die. The kind of skeleton Bethesda uses for environmental storytelling. So i would do a pistol at most. I fear it's the only method I have the courage to attempt. I hope I become a sick ass environmental storytelling skeleton

For me- firearms is very messy. I want to be cremated but I don't want my family to have to ID me like that.

Additionally someone very close to my family failed a firearm attempt and he's blind with a lot of neurological issues as a result and that's not a risk I'm willing to take. Sn has less long term risk if it is failed.

It's one thing to fail for various (personal) reasons, and another to blame a method that "doesn't work" just because you did things wrong or you were scared and aborted the process or bad/wrong/poor/weak "materials"..

I don't think SN is more popular than firearms, those who have a gun probably don't come to online forums they just pull the trigger in the heat of the moment and become a statistic, however Sn, you kinda need to be part of something like this otherwise let's be honest who the fuck knew what Sn was before reading about it here. I do agree I've read some far fetched stories of failed partial hanging attempts on this site tho, I think that's people trying to 'justify' a right way to do the method, there's seems to be so many tips and tricks I think some people just want the gratification of being able to make yourself unconscious

I feel like those people must have never attempted before because killing yourself can be hard and scary and most people who attempt end up failing. This is a well-known fact.
