Lonely and depressed....

Feel like a little kid doing this, but, I am desperate.....

I'm incredibly depressed and lonely right now. Not a soul to talk to. Most of my friends are either asleep, busy or are just tired of my deep dark gloom.

I'm desperate here. I just want someone to talk to....I feel like a HUGE burden....

I know loneliness can be painful for many people. I'm sorry you are going through this. I wish you the best and when the time comes to leave, I hope you find peace.

Sometimes I'm numb. Sometimes I'm OK.
And sometimes the loneliness will Come along and absolutely crush me.
That's when I realize there's no way I can survive this for very long. At a certain point, it will simply be too much to bare.
Weirdly, i used to be someone with lots of friends and female attention. Certainly never thought it would come to this. It has.

Some people are mostly fine living life by themselves. I've never been like that. I basically shut down entirely apart from other human beings. One of many of my shortcomings.

What caused the change?

For my entire life I have been independent without much interest in popular culture. Just my dogs and I. So I wonder what it is like for people.


I have a parent and a niece. I don't watch TV or like most entertainment, and used to be political but America is so extreme now it isn't worth the effort.

What caused the change?

For my entire life I have been independent without much interest in popular culture. Just my dogs and I. So I wonder what it is like for people.

I'm not particularly interested in popular culture either.
Two things caused the change.
1. My girlfriend and the love of my life ditched me for another guy which thoroughly gutted me.
2. Having lost my mind I made a bad financial decision which wrecked my money situation.

Bad combo:
Here in the US as a 50 something guy it's not so easy to socialize If you can't meet people for food and drinks or have dinner parties etc. socializing costs money. Hard to date when you've got no cash.

So the combination of being broke and depressed threw a wrench in my social life. Which led me to Contemplate Wrapping things up…

Even in the UK you need money to socialise. Not that I want to now. I have enough money to pay the bills. And hardly spend on other things.

Yes people always want to go out. Even in my 20s I always thought it would be more fun to meet at people's homes instead of at bars but people seem to like more variety.

I gave up trying to date when I turned 30, I feel like I dodged the figurative or maybe literal bullet by not getting married.

Well, there's a reason why people get married. You get to my age And it's really quite difficult to meet people… I did the online stuff before my prior relationship but it's really quite a lot of work… Time consuming and expensive. So I think I'm done with it.

Yes I agree it is hard. I do think men are being more honest about loneliness.

It totally sucks. It is intolerable. It's not how human beings were meant to live. Biologically, we were meant to live in tribes around 180 people. If you're alone it means you were cast out of the tribe. It means you were condemned to death.
