• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I have heard that in the UK, suicide notes very often never get to those intended as the police hang on to them in case they are needed for any evidence of foul play.
My plan is to leave a load of letters in my room and when my landlord enters my room, he will hand them over to family.

I would prefer to leave them at my sisters' house but can't risk them being opened and I'm unsuccessful or change my mind.

Some get them back after the coroner's inquest has completely finished

You can schedule an e-mail. The link can be found under the 'resource compilation'. Future me or something.

If you schedule it a few days after you will have plenty of time to cancel it, i imagine. Check on their site though.

You could leave a note addressed specifically to the police (they have to investigate so you can help them with the evidence) and others addressed to your loved ones. They will probably make copies of everything but should release the private letters to your family.

Alternatively, you could put it in an envelope together with your will, if you have one. I believe that any letter clearly labeled as a will cannot be confiscated by the police and the contents will inevitably be communicated to your family (however in a more formal context).
Another advantage is that no one should ever read it unless you are officially declared dead. If you fail nobody should read it.

Police required to collect and produce everything for coroner's court. Suspected suicide or foul play. Keep a will separate as this is left behind usually as required to deal with death matters. Leave notes there - can do copies so police have a copy to take with. Coroners pathway can be very long and everything on oath and things can go missing but no real reason for police to withhold. If associated criminal investigation e.g. if N used maybe they do keep- even more reason put personal notes somewhere else or schedule email ( and thank you all for pointers on how to set up ).

I know this ia an older thread but yes they do hold onto suicide letters. Back in 2006, i write a rather long one to my mother and the police took it and kept it for months. This time around, I am posting it in my mother's door at 12am when she will be asleep then off I go to another city to do what I need to do - also not taking my phone as you can be traced on that even with the phone switched off which is how I was found back in 2006.
