I've just started a bio of Kurt Cobain picked up in a charity shop. I'm finding it disturbing.

I was 16 when Kurt Cobain ended his suffering. He was really unwell from a very young age, to the point where he shared some of the characteristics according to this biographer of your typical 'school shooter'.

I'm quite horrified reading about him. I think because I was so young and naive at the time, I didn't really take it all in properly, both his death and what led up to it. I am also really horrified reading about Courtney Love taking heroin while pregnant. I enjoyed the music, but now I am so revolted by her behaviour. I guess with both of them maybe they had terrible mental health issues which led them to heroin, but oh my, to bring a child into that situation. Fuckers.

Now I have begun reading the book about him, I am amazed he lived until he was 27.

I hope this biography won't haunt me too much. I will have to move on to a happier musician biography after this one. If anyone has suggestions...

Hehe. I have read the Jim Morrison one. It is happier than the Kurt Cobain one!!! I'll check the others.
I like the moments of fate when a band forms. In the Jim Morrison one he literally meets I can't remember who on a beach while under the influence of LSD and says let's make lots of money from music, or some such. The rest is history.
Jim Morrison did so much LSD, he proves that it doesn't kill you. He was also quite strange from a young age. Like, pretty damn strange.

I also like that he met Francis Ford Coppola at (film school?) who then used his song in Apocalypse Now.

I tried so hard not to dislike C. Love 25 years ago, but what a shameless, petty attention whore she turned out to be, Jeezus! The epitome of obnoxiousness.

Scar Tissue, the autobiography by Anthony Keides (the lead singer of Red Hot Chilli Peppers) is one of my favourite books. It's wild and fucked up but not at all depressing in the same way you mention above.

Even if you've never heard of him/his music it's still a reeaally good read.

Courtney continuing heroin while pregnant is despicable. How fucking selfish of her. She literally chose heroin over her own child. Her daughter who had no say in being here.

Rather abort if you can't stop your addiction/s. Courtney basically brought a baby into this world already addicted to heroin.

Thank goodness Courtney had only one child.

Unfortunately, the biographies of rock stars that were train wrecks in their personal life make better reads and therefore sell more copies than others that went on to live somewhat normal lives after their recording years were over.
The more debauchery the better it seems.

Kurt had everything: money, fame, talent, a wife and a daughter, he was loved. But depression doesn't care about all that. His chronic stomach pain and depression ended him. Kurt is the perfect example that depression can mess you up no matter how good your life is.

Jim Morrison was the best and the realest and the prototype for all that came after. Took heroic doses of LSD, but the booze is what killed him. His image transformation was so severe.
