I'm so sorry for your loss, its been about 3 months since my cat died and i'm still reeling from it and in denial that he's gone. Animals I feel are very much taken for granted in this world, as he was my buddy and best friend. I wish I died spontaneously like how he passed instead of him going through that pain.
I'm sure your dog loved you very much and had a nice life with you being around to take care of him/her. Losing a pet is like losing another human being but some people don't treat it as the same, they're part of the family too.
