Hi. Yesterday I was in such a state that I almost threw myself out the window... The only thing that stopped me was that I live on the 4th floor, 14 meters up. Am I right in thinking that it's almost impossible to die by jumping from that height, and that I'd most likely just injure myself and end up in the hospital and then a mental institution afterward?

What's the minimum height you need to be sure of death when jumping?

It's very difficult to say with absolute certainty. There have been people who survived after falling from a plane and people who died falling from a height of 1 meter. It's inconsistent and depends on many variables.

Basically, it depends how you fall. If you fall and break your neck, any height can pretty much be lethal, but you could survive falls from hundreds of meters. The highest ever recorded fall was around 30 000 feet high; she spent days in a coma, but she survived, so really there isn't a "universal lethal height" to jump from.

I read people who survived falling from high height either landed on trees, grass, snow, or they were shielded by protective parts of the plane. I think surviving a fall on rock-hard concrete is unlikely at a certain height.

I think you'll likely end up with fractures, paralysis or coma. Not sure if its worth it.

If you fall headfirst then yeah, but unlikely. its really hard to control your body when falling. even professionals like paratroopers cant really fall down with desired pose.

Rule of thumb is 46m onto concrete or 75m onto water but as stated above, there afr always exceptions.

would never risk this... the risk is high just many other things happen..
and yeah like the others say many variable..

and also there could be reflexes like... secure your head with you arms, even if you don't want this. I mean just saying, I heart this from a person who tried it from 4 stories to ctb. survived.
