Is death just like sleep?

I love sleep it's something I look forward to everyday I can't wait till bedtime so I think death will really quite suit me?

Not sure. "Life" after death is a mystery to me. The fear of the unknown is yet another reason I haven't fully committed to ctb. But... in moments of desperation when I really can't take it and I'm close, my justification is that everyone has to die eventually. Billions have already done it, so why not me.

I think for lots of people the answer is yes, until they are suddenly thrust into a new life. For others there is a period of time spent in a different environment. I wish I knew what determined all this.

I mean as someone said it's like anesthesia. You die, then you next find yourself being born again. Or sometimes for some people you might be in a dismal place just waiting but very much awake and aware. Or hopefully in a nice place. Then suddenly find yourself being reborn. I think there is a period of about 50-100 earth years between lives.

This is a trap basically, this cycling in and out of lives and you get out by letting go of all attachments to all aspects and desires of life. So when you die know and remember you are letting go of it all, not having any further connection to any of this. It's a drastic transformation.

When I'm sleeping, I'm blissfully unaware of how horrific my life is when I'm awake. So I have to think that if there is an afterlife, then it's not like sleep at all because our souls must experience awareness.

Sleep for me is usually accompanied by dreams, and because there is nothing to be experienced in death, it would not be the same sadly. Dreams can be a pleasant escape from time to time, especially those in which you are completely dissociated from your own identity.

No one knows for sure, but I bet it's more like anesthesia.

I am inclined to believe that death is more like what @threesummers described above, without the "coming to" part of course. Then again, I don't know how useful it is to think of death as a state -- as if it is something that can be experienced -- there are only dead bodies.
