It's that you didn't sufficiently cherish
their company to stay around and serenely wait
until you were taken by an agent of horror
or some idiotic, torturous misadventure.
Hence the source of devastation they feel:
the imagined slight of self-removal from their midst.
Your too meager regard is what hurts them the most.
Why can't they accept there are reasons why
suicide is quite simply another way to die?
