it's scary to think I won't exist after I die, I have been an atheist since birth but I'm now slowly opening up to the idea of an afterlife.

But I guess we will die someday anyway whether if it's suicide or not and I will have to overcome this fear.

There's some things in life that I enjoy that I find hard to give up and I guess it's just an instinct to stay alive.

I already don't enjoy living and I for sure know my life will get a lot worse in a few years so suicide seems logical

Im from a former Soviet nation, conscription is still a thing here, I'm finishing school in a few years. I have the lowest grades in my class and I'm sure I won't make it into university and the army will take me, my parents have left me at a young age and I live with my other family members, they have high expectations of me and will kill me if they found out how I have been doing

If you're thinking about this out of fear, perhaps it's worth looking at the fear itself first, before deciding what to believe.
If there is something after death, it's not fear that will make it real. And, if there isn't, believing won't change that fact.
I don't think we need to invent an 'after' for the present to have value. Perhaps it's precisely the fact that it ends that makes this important.
If you want to believe, that's fine—but try to see if it comes from conviction or just fear. Because those are very different things.

I know what you mean. I'm afraid that everything I love will disappear forever, but at the same time it feels good to think that after this there's nothing more. I won't cry, I won't feel pain, and all those things that I hate will disappear with me. The fear will vanish forever.

How does it not feel scary? It means that there is no real meaning to life. Your existence wasn't for any reason, and you will never be able to control that. You'll be left paralyzed forever in nothing. It isn't some cute movie with end credits which has some narrator talking about something that sounds vaguely philosophical at the end of it to make people feel good and whatnot. It means that nothing matters and you're only told that it matters so that you can keep being a slave for the rich, hedonistic assholes who exploit the world so they can fulfill their pleasures while they still can. It means that there is no justice for the people who hurt, rape, torture, slaughter and oppress other people with impunity in this world, as they continue to live and die a more peaceful life than you will ever have. That doesn't scare you?

i only want to die because of the way i was born, so if there was an afterlife where i was born the way i needed to be i would very dearly accept that. i don't think there is though, but it doesn't matter for me, i just need to die.

I want to die. It's hard for me to imagine that I exist, think, and experience emotions. And then after death, I'm gone. No thoughts, no feelings, not even the understanding that I'm dead. There's simply nothing for me. No body connecting me to the outside world. And do I even exist after death?
I don't believe in an afterlife. I believe religion was invented, in part, to explain things people didn't understand, to believe that death isn't the end. It's much simpler to believe that the soul is immortal.

P.S. English is not my native language. Please excuse any mistakes.

I certainly don't, all I want is the peace of non-existence, to me existence is the most cruel, terrible mistake that just tortures existing beings and causes all this harm with no limit as to how much one can be tortured, non-existence is just all I see as positive, all I want is to be permanently unconscious.

I've had supernatural experiences before and gotten secondhand accounts of supernatural experiences (from family members) that you really couldn't fabricate that makes me believe there is a soul after death. This doesn't prove anything about God, heaven, hell, etc. Still, at the end of the day, it's not like anybody knows for sure. I wish there wasn't a life after death like the other users here have commented and I hope that's true. If it's just oblivion then it would be good. We'll all know the truth once we get to the other side. Right now though I just don't care. I'm so mentally exhausted of having three illnesses in just under one year that losing my sanity and questioning reality.

there just isn't any reason to suggest there exists a realm for our consciousness to exist after we die. the brain and the conscious experience, feelings, desires, wants are related. if that ape brain isn't around, but the "soul" or consciousness exists, is it even you? some creature/non-material being that doesn't yearn for sex, love, prestige, meaning, familial bonding or other ape affairs? it's not you, at least i don't think it is.

honestly relate, it feels like wishful thinking but i hope for an afterlife where i can infinitely consume media of the present and future comfortably if that even makes sense ;-;... i love reading manhwas and fanfiction so the idea that i can't do that after death plus missing out future chapters of my favorite works kinda saddens me. media and the fear of missing out is the only thing keeping me here ngl 💔
