Good point — the time it takes to become unresponsive is important because it's basically the amount of time you're experiencing symptoms. The time it takes to die, though, can be much longer, and even though you aren't consciously experiencing the symptoms, you can still be saved.
The answer as to how long depends on a lot of factors. Metabolism, yes. But also purity of SN, your size, the amount you took, the acidity of your stomach when you ingested the SN, etc. This is why the range is as wide as 45 minutes to 8 hours.
