If you don't know, hotdiggedydemon (a.k.a. Max Gilardi) is an animator and Youtuber. He has been suffering from increasingly worsening fibromyalgia, uncontrollable drooling and tinnitus, and due to these debilitating conditions he announced on the 1st of August that he will be seeking euthanasia / assisted suicide. Here is his live where he talks about it: .

God, the comments around it on various platforms are infuriating. "Worst fucking choice", saying to just keep trying to get better and seek treatment, saying this is the result of a society who tries to sell death instead of treatments (how does that even make sense..?). Oh, and the "we care about you, so don't do it"; you care so much but will just let him suffer, cause uh, you need to live? Who cares about the quality of life as long as your heart is beating! Living yet suffering > Dead yet not! Why?

Literally just mindlessly saying "no, try more and more treatments!" for the slim chance he may actually half-recover from an insane pain disease that deprives him of his will and interests, which would take years. I don't blame him for not wanting to try further. It sounds like agony, and it's literally his choice.

Noticing who have fibromyalgia themselves are in support of his decision, go figure.

Only those who do not know the pain would tell others that their incurable disease can get better. Their hearts bleed, but for the wrong reasons.

Yea it's so bullshit you can tell those comments NEVER had to deal with chronic illness.

For example, I have horrific chronic pain that is unbearable for years now, and trying to get medications for it is like special type of hell.

doctors will just think your a junkie tryna score pain meds, and they'll just play medical hot potato (basically refer you to a specialist who will then refer you to a pain management Clnic who will then refer you to useless treatments and even if you find one willing to prescribe anything of value, your walking on eggshells)

It's also systemic the lack of empathy for chronically ill people, because we are considered the weakest link on society so we are "in their eyes" better off dead or in prison.

That's a major reason why I will soon kill myself because there is no way in hell Im living more decades Im this decaying body

i remember discovering this guy like 14 years ago thanks to his pony.mov series when i was still associated with that community. its sad seeing this happen to him, but i completely understand. he has an incurable illness that will only cause him extreme distress as it continues to progress. id do the same in his shoes.

I think that very often viewers form parasitic relationship with their favourite content creators. I pity this guy, and hope he manages to get peace he desires

I really dislike those kind of comments too, but I feel like the general population just has no idea how absolutely horrendous some chronic conditions can be. They have an idea of suffering that doesn't come close to having to live with it yourself, so they think it's reasonable to ask the other party to keep going. It's hard to imagine the daily torture chamber if you've never been in it.

Good for him to seek out euthanasia, though. No person with a chronic, debilitating condition should have to suffer day in day out, and that extends to people who "might" have a nebulous chance of getting better in the future.

I've been seeing this all over the place. The comments are truly fucking nauseating. The ones where people are tactfully saying, in essence, that he's "giving up" and that he's making a mistake are bad enough. The ones where people are outright calling him a fucking pussy are even worse. Sick, sick, sick fucking world we live in, man.

His choice is understandable, he would have to live 50+ years in complete pain and numbness without even the ability to even work in a minimum wage job, he wouldn't be able to sustain himself and his viewers wouldn't be there forever

The comments are just distasteful and people refuse to acknowledge that someone might be in such a dire situation in which there is no way out, they are quick to call him "selfish" without realizing they are more selfish than anyone else

society should stop thinking that life is always the one and only way. it's clearly not for everyone.

his work was a big part of my childhood (lol) and his recent videos were excellent as well.
I wish him the best in whatever he ends up doing.

reading comments on youtube and posts on twitter that are too privileged to know what it's like to be extremely suicidal or are ragebaiting for engagement are making me so annoyed. he's obviously suffering from chronic pain but they think he's faking it for money. he's researched suicide laws in every us state and he knows about swiss euthansia. no one that isn't in pain does that. i watched his pony.mov series and his other animations when i was younger, but i won't tell him to keep living when he doesn't even have the strength to animate or stream anymore. i think he's brave for not pretending everything is okay and i hope he's able to find help or treatment.
