Yep, it's very, very painful. But only for around ten seconds if everything goes right. An expert-level partial could be more or less painless in theory.

If someone can pass out or black out soon enough it should be less painful and traumatic. It's one of the most used methods.

It depends. If you can full suspension with a decent drop, like from a gallows, there's a chance you could break your neck and die instantly, no pain. Kicking a chair, it's going to hurt like hell until you pass out.

I think this method takes balls of steel seriously...I'm definitely not brave enough for that level of pain.

At least personally, wasn't exactly painful but definitely uncomfortable. A lot of it is down to the lig you use. An electrical cord or thin rope is likely gonna hurt like hell. Thick belts or ropes less so, more just discomfort and a feeling of pressure in your head.

I watched videos. Why do some seem to be in a lot of pain? I can't find an easy way to die.

If the noose is in the lower part of the neck, there's a good chance it will block the trachea, which is bad.

I still stand by a lot of that being down to what's used. A lot of people used thin rope and cord (easily available) but that's gonna cut into your skin and cause unnecessary pain.

I've seen a video myself of a dude pretending to ctb as some sort of twisted prank. He used a bedsheet, apart from the initial "oh shoot" moment where he realised he'd gone too far he was out like a light in probably 10 seconds. Then there was flailing but he wouldn't have felt any of that as he was unconscious.

The other main cause is likely (as mentioned above) that the trachea being closed or compressed by the lig. Very painful and uncomfortable, something that needs to be avoided at all costs. You should be able to breathe in a lig, otherwise you'll feel like you're suffocating/drowning. I imagine that's very unpleasant and likely what some of those people experienced.

No pain, no gain. Factually incorrect in this case, but most suicides involve at least psych pain.

Yeah but wont thinner ligature make you pass out quicker?

Yeah you should be able to. In the ideal situation hanging causes death by hypoxia due to lack of blood flow to the brain, not through inhibiting your breathing. This means you're aiming to close the ateries supplying blood flow to the brain and not the trachea. I can attest to this at least from experience. Up until the point of unconciousness you should be able to at least breath in a laboured manner, if not normally. If you weren't able to do that hanging would probably be as painful, if not more, than drowning. Hope that answers your question

Maybe, I'm not an expert on this. However I don't believe you would want something overly thin like a charging cable unless you added padding. I'd always aim for a middle-ground if I were using this method.

When pressure on the neck is spread evenly enough, you will be able to breathe. The trachea needs a lot of pressure to close, as long as that doesn't happen you'll be fine.
