She seemed overwhelmed by all my issues. I wonder if I should even bother. I've been to therapy since I was a child. A sounding board is always nice but otherwise I don't see the benefit

That's not good if she is overwhelmed by your problems. If you want to give therapy a try, maybe see a more experienced one.

I'm still glad you're getting help even if she does seem overwhelmed.
You are doing the right thing

She looks overwhelmed because ot's her job, don't worry about that and tell her whatever you want.

I personally don't believe in them but al least it's a good form of giving vent to others.

It's important to be compatible with your psychiatrist. If you feel she's out of her depth, I'd consider another.

See how it goes though. Therapy requires dialog; conversations that the therapist leads a patient through to find consistencies, correlations or abnormalities in your thoughts and behavior. They're mental detectives, not miracle workers.

If you feel that dialog is being suppressed, discouraged, or is somehow not progressing, then that therapist isn't for you; it doesn't necessary mean therapy is not right for you. A good therapist will provide context and insight into your thought patterns, with the intention of helping you reach internal understanding. It's attainable, but won't be easy.

I applaud you for trying it. Don't give up if you feel it's what you might need - you may click with some therapists better than others.

Personally, they did not help me
But I have seen that they have been useful for others
I agree with what the user said "No Future"

Volatile... If she saw everything you post on this site it would be her job and duty to have you committed in a New York minute !

Anyway... This site has to be better therapy than talking to a college educated idiot.
