My Internet isn't working well this evening. I hope it is soon fixed. On my phone I do more errors due to autocorrection.
I just miss @Chinaski and I miss @DarkRange55 The latter one isn't banned though. There are many more that I miss.
I think most people let go of this forum once they are banned. I can remember after the NYT article was published I think in 2021 I really panicked. I thought we all would be in a lot of legal trouble. I thought once the NYT publishes such an article it is over. I quit the forum for one week and I was heartbroken. I really missed the forum and you all. I am not sure whether I still followed the forum passively to that time. Returning really felt cathartic.
Usually you are first a passive lurker and then you become an active member. I know some people who wanted this forum to burn after they quit it in range. I think though this has become less. This antagonizing and always the rhetoric us against the pro-lifers was sort of toxic. In fact I think the pro-life activism from that specific group has become less. And I think this was a reason for a better debate culture in this forum. When the external thread was bigger, this forum tended to more of an echo chamber.
I think my guess would be 5% of members that are banned continue to follow it. I think the following is very rare but dark places like this one attract a lot of bad apples. Always try to be aware of that. There were probably people (a very very small minority) that faked a very tragic story and then staged a suicide. I don't accuse anyone. I don't read goodbye threads anymore they make me too sad. But there are strange people on here. The nature of this forum simply implies that. I also feel weird about the fact that there are people who read posts on here that get sexually aroused when people commit suicide. They probably have their own internal pain/demons and probably a tragic story themselves.
