This stems from the argument that just because I deny myself food doesn't mean I'm harming myself. What do you think - should self harm be classified as any form of self punishment, or just punishment that physically harms?

It just depends on the reasons you're doing it. If you deny yourself food to punish or harm yourself, I'd call it self harm.

I just feel like self harm implies harm, if that makes sense? Like no harm comes from it, I just deny myself food for extended periods of time because I don't deserve food.

I understand how you feel, and I'm sorry you're in so much pain. Malnutrition is harm, and going for long periods without eating will eventually cause health issues even if they are not immediate. It harms your brain & other organs and weakens your body significantly. It is why a lot of people with eating disorders, or even those who went on hunger strikes start to have immense health issues after a certain age.

This is true, but I have to stress I'm only talking like a 16-22 hour fast each day. I just think it's interesting to classify it as self harm or dieting depending on the intent behind the fast, considering the result and the harm (or lack of) is the same.

A person who fasts as a "diet" for 16-22 hours is still harming themselves, many diets are harmful. I think it is both intent and result that matters.

Actually i learned yes it can honestly it depends. Like sometimes thinking that I dont deserve nice things. You can even self harm by thinking. (I forgot the name so sorry)

I didnt knew at that tome but when I didnt eat and ate aomething bad I worked out to the point of exhaustion cuz i deserved it.

Honestly it depends with intention and from person to person I think
