Venting Disrespect in goodbye threads

Goodbye threads are polemic I know. But I'm saddened and annoyed by the disrespect shown by some members in these threads.

Don't derail them with requests for sources or make comments that OP has specifically said they don't want!

It's best to not post one at all, this website is not a 'safe space', doing so will just lead to more suffering. It's best to die alone far away from others. If I had a ctb plan that I felt confident in then I would be nowhere near this forum.

I agree however, this is a public forum where people here are dealing with the extremes of emotions and pain. If you choose to participate then you have opened your gate. Many here are broken or may lack a level of maturity/sensitivity levels to know when to step back. Others are just oblivious of the fact that they are offending or just don't care. I feel there are instances where we should voice our concerns but there are also situations where it is best if we just keep it to ourselves. It's a fine line though. I'm guilty of it. Regardless, we should always give respect to someone's privacy and choices.

That one wasn't. That was a deliberate trolling and an attempt to disrupt. The poster had no other prior posts and had clearly joined the forum under false pretenses.
I am surprised that @Theanswer posted a public goodbye thread considering she seemed pretty guarded about trusting members here in general.

The smart thing to do would have been to recognize the troll as a troll, which was easy to do, and just ignore them rather than engaging with them and giving them an excuse to continue to post their crap in responses over and over. This goes for the OP of that thread, too. You have no control over responses to a public post. If you want support during your final hours, why not just focus on the people offering support?

I hear you. I was there yesterday and the behavior was so disturbing. Going forward I won't be so quick to offer leniency. Take care.
