I didn't really understand from the article how this could occur, seems really weird and tragic if the person was in an otherwise happy life.

I read that article. It had to do with how the particular stock he was working with was traded and showed him a balance of $730k in the negative. He didn't know that it was temporary thing. Here's the story:

The stock market has been causing suicides since its inception. I'm honestly not surprised.
